CAA Just Named Manitoba's Worst Roads

If you've hit a pothole on your commute lately, you're not the only one.

CAA Manitoba released its 2026 Worst Roads list this week, and over 711 roads were nominated provincewide. Provincial Trunk Highway 34 took the top spot for the second year running.

Five Winnipeg roads also made the top ten:

  • 3rd: Kenaston/Route 90

  • 4th: Saskatchewan Avenue (eight years on the list)

  • 6th: Gateway Road

  • 7th: Leila Avenue

  • 10th: St. Mary's Road

But being on this list is actually a good thing…

Voting in the campaign is how roads get on the radar, and, CAA takes the results straight to the government as part of their infrastructure advocacy, and it leads to real action.

18th Street was once Manitoba's worst road, and after landing at the top of the list, it got a funding commitment, a full rebuild, and it's now one of the smoother drives in the city.

Every Winnipegger has a road they wish was better. Turns out, speaking up about it is exactly how it gets fixed.

P.S. If you know someone who has a road they'd love to see fixed, send this their way.

International Tango Instructors From Argentina Are Coming to Winnipeg

If you've been looking for something different to do this summer, here's an opportunity you won't see come around often.

This June, two internationally recognized tango instructors are flying in straight from Argentina to teach right here in Winnipeg.

Roxana and Fabián Belmonte are bringing a full weekend of tango workshops to Eleven Hundred Dance from June 5 to 8.

They've spent over 25 years dancing and teaching all around the world, and for a few days, all of that experience lands in our city.

Here's what's happening over the weekend:

  • Six workshops across the weekend, drop-ins are welcomed but pre-registration is encourged

  • A special Friday technique and styling class

  • Private lessons available with Roxana and Fabian directly

  • Saturday Milonga (Tango Dance evening) great authentic tango music plus Tango Demonstrations

The best part? You don't need any experience. All you need is a little curiosity and a willingness to try something new.

So whether tango has always quietly fascinated you or you're just after a memorable way to spend a summer weekend, this is a rare chance to learn from the very best.

So impress your partner, take them dancing and discover Tango together.

Restaurant of the Week: The Beer Can

Your New Favourite Patio Just Off Osborne

Patio season is here, and we might have just found your new hidden gem.

The days are long, the weather is warm, and there is truly nothing better than being outside with a cold drink and good people around you.

This is what summer in Winnipeg feels like, and The Beer Can was made for exactly this.

Just off Osborne at 1 Granite Way, it's a massive outdoor beer garden that somehow manages to feel like your favourite backyard hangout.

String lights overhead, wooden benches, the smell of good food in the air, and enough open seating that you never feel rushed or crowded.

And it's not just beer. They've got cider, wine, and craft cocktails too. The food is handled by local legends Kosmo's, the team behind Hoagie Boyz and Next Door, so you know it's good. Think spicy fried chicken, loaded tots, and impressive salads.

A few more reasons to love it:

  • Dog-friendly, so bring your pup

  • Live DJs and dance performances

  • Hip, friendly staff and genuinely just great vibes

  • Open daily 12PM–12AM, weather permitting

This is summer in Winnipeg done right.

City Updates

Westwood Residents Asked to Reduce Power Consumption

If you live in Westwood, Manitoba Hydro has a small ask for you this week, and given how hot it's been, this is not exactly easy timing.

Hydro is doing major upgrades at the Cavalier substation, work that started last fall and is almost done.

Right now, they're in a phase where they can't borrow extra power from nearby substations. With temperatures pushing 30°C, that means demand is running higher than they can safely handle without risking an outage.

So until June 2, they're asking residents to ease up on power consumption during peak hours.

Here are some ways they could do that:

  • Hold off on dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, and EV chargers until after 10 p.m.

  • Set the air conditioning to 24°C, still cooler than outside, just a touch higher than usual

A bit of good news is Hydro says the situation is fully contained to this neighbourhood and doesn't affect anyone outside the area.

It's a short ask for a long-term payoff. And once this phase wraps up, Westwood will have better, more reliable power going forward.

If you're in the Westwood area or know someone who is, pass this along so they're not caught off guard!

Manitoba Invests $525,000 in the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba

If someone in your life has been affected by dementia, you know firsthand how much having the right help matters.

The Manitoba government is increasing its support to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba to $525,000 for 2026-27.

That's $200,000 more than before, and it means more families across the province can get help closer to home. The announcement was made at the ASM's annual Walk for Alzheimer's last week.

The ASM has been there for Manitobans for over 40 years.

And they offer:

  • Counselling and support groups for caregivers and families

  • Education sessions and early-stage programs for those newly diagnosed

  • Help connecting people with the right resources in their community

  • Better coordination with regional dementia teams across the province

This funding also comes with a long-term agreement, so the ASM can plan ahead and keep serving people year after year, not just one budget cycle at a time.

The CFL Just Signed the Biggest Broadcast Deal in League History

Source: Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Big news for football fans this week.

The CFL signed a six-year deal with Bell Media, DAZN, and YouTube worth roughly $500 million. That's about 60% more per year than what the league has been working with. This is a big moment for Canadian football.

Here's the part that matters most for fans:

  • TSN keeps 60 regular-season games, all playoffs, and the Grey Cup, with simulcasts on CTV and Crave

  • Starting in 2027, DAZN will carry a Saturday night game every week, plus select playoff games

  • YouTube gets pre-season games and behind-the-scenes content with creators

  • And for the first time, every CFL game will be available globally through DAZN

We can expect more coverage, more platforms, more ways to watch the game we love.

The league is also expecting a larger salary cap from the revenue bump, which means teams can go after better talent.

For Bombers fans, that means more ways to catch every game and a league that's only getting stronger.

The Best Father's Day Gift for a Dad Who Never Slows Down

The best Father's Day gifts are the ones he actually uses.

Not another gift card. Not another set of golf tees headed straight for the garage. Something he reaches for every single morning.

For the dads who never really slow down, the ones training for a marathon or on their feet all day at work, Innovative Medical Supplies has something that earns its keep.

Compression stockings have quietly become a favourite for runners and hardworking dads alike, easing tired legs and helping with circulation, swelling, and recovery.

Here is why they work so well:

  • Trusted brands on the shelf, including Juzo, Sigvaris, Jobst, and Bauerfeind

  • Both off-the-shelf and medical-grade options

  • Friendly staff who help you find the right fit and compression level

  • Locations in Winnipeg (Henderson and Corydon), plus Brandon and Steinbach

Here is the timely part. The Manitoba Marathon lands on Father's Day this year, June 21. So whether your dad is running it or cheering from the sidelines, this is the gift that keeps him moving, mile after mile.

One thing worth knowing: compression works best when it actually fits. The team will measure your dad and match him to the right brand and compression level, so there is no guesswork and nothing headed back to the shelf. Just pop into a store near you.

A small way to look after the dads who are always looking after us.

P.S. Share this with someone who has a hard-working dad worth spoiling this Father's Day!
