Winnipeg Property Assessments for 2027 Are Headed to Your Mailbox
If you own a home in Winnipeg, it's worth keeping an eye on your mailbox over the next few weeks.
Yesterday, June 4, the City mailed 2027 assessment notices to roughly 243,200 property owners.
This is a routine update the city does every two years to reflect changes in the real estate market, with this round based on conditions from April 1, 2025.
A few things worth knowing:
This is not a tax bill. Your 2026 taxes are not affected.
The new value helps decide how 2027 property taxes get split across the city.
And if you're not satisfied with your assessment or believe something is inaccurate, you can apply for a revision until June 29, 2026.
One important thing to keep in mind is that a higher assessed value does not automatically mean higher property taxes.
What matters is how your property's value changed compared to the city-wide average.
If your assessment increased less than the average, your taxes will likely rise less than the approved rate. If it increased more than the average, they could rise more.
For now, it's a good moment to look over your notice, get familiar with your updated value, and make sure everything looks right before next year's tax cycle.

Manitoba's Biggest Summer Fair Is Less Than a Week Away

Why Some Winnipeg Trees Are Looking a Little Chewed Up

If you've noticed some of the leaves around your neighbourhood looking nibbled lately, there's a reason for it.
The recent warm, dry stretch has brought out tree pest caterpillars, and they've started feeding on leaves across parts of the city.
The good news is that the city is already on it. The annual Tree Pest Caterpillar Control Program is underway, with crews working overnight to protect Winnipeg's tree canopy before the damage spreads.
Here’s what to expect:
Crews work nightly in slow-moving trailers with high-pressure sprayers, targeting areas with the heaviest caterpillar activity
The program covers boulevards, parks, and cemeteries across the city
A biological insecticide is used, safe for birds and other insects
Operations run for about a month
If your area is on the schedule, the city asks that you park off the street that night when you can, just to give crews room to work.
A little overnight work now means more shade and greener streets for the rest of us all summer long.
Manitoba Invests Over $1M to Respond to Winnipeg's Growing Overdose Crisis
The people who show up for Winnipeg's hardest moments are about to get some backup.
The Manitoba government is investing more than $1 million toward strengthening overdose response in the parts of the city seeing the most need, including downtown, the North End, the West End, and local shelters and encampments.
Here's where the funding is going:
$802,000 for a new 24/7 mobile overdose response team in downtown Winnipeg, staffed by two paramedics working around the clock in the areas where calls have been rising
$150,000 to Main Street Project to manage and distribute oxygen delivery equipment to front-line organizations
$100,000 for overdose response and first aid training for shelter staff, outreach workers, and community organizations
While no single program solves something this complex.
But more trained hands and faster response give front-line workers a better chance to help people in the moments that matter most.

Winnipeg Is Getting Its First-Ever Summer Rap Festival
Winnipeg doesn't usually land the big rap names. This August, it's getting a whole festival of them.
The Summer Rap Festival takes over Red River Exhibition Park on August 29, bringing some of the biggest names in rap and R&B together for a full day of music, food, and entertainment.
And if you've been waiting for tickets, today's the day. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 5 at 10 a.m.
Here's what to know:
Headliners: NAV, DaBaby, Roy Woods, and Casper TNG, with supporting acts including Max Winds, NorthSideBaby, ParisPlayedYou, and more
Food vendors, activations, VIP experiences, and entertainment will be available throughout the festival
18+ event with valid ID required
Organizers are expecting thousands of fans from across Manitoba and Canada as the festival closes out the summer.

Winnipeg's Newest Pottery Studio Opens Next Month With Free Prizes and Giveaways!

Winnipeg's newest paint-your-own pottery studio opens July 1 at 1615 Regent Ave West, and it's built for all ages.
