Happy Friday, Winnipeg!

We hope everyone had an amazing Canada Day. Whether you spent it down at The Forks, in the backyard with the grill going, or somewhere in between, we hope you got the chance to step out and enjoy the day with family and friends.

Now that the celebrations are behind us, we've got a lot to get through today. From a little good news at the grocery till to some big moves from the Jets, plenty is happening around the city as we roll into the weekend.

The next time you're walking through the grocery store, you probably won't notice anything different.

The shelves are the same, and the cart still fills up faster than you'd like. The surprise shows up when you check your receipt at checkout.

Most grocery staples were already PST-free, but as of July 1st, Manitoba has removed the Provincial Sales Tax from more grocery items, making some everyday favourites a little more affordable.

Because of this, an average family could now save around $100 a year.

It won't change your whole grocery budget, but if you're grabbing dinner on the way home, snacks for the kids, or stocking up for a weekend at the lake, those savings add up over time.

It's one small change that makes everyday shopping just a little easier.

When you think of a police cruiser, artwork probably isn't the first thing that comes to your mind.

But Winnipeg has a brand new one that's meant for something completely different. Instead of responding to calls, you'll see this cruiser at community events across the city, where its job is simply to bring people together.

The cruiser was created through a partnership between the Winnipeg Police Service and the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs as another step toward strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities across the city.

If you spent Canada Day refreshing your phone to see what the Jets were going to do in free agency... You weren't alone.

And the wait didn't last very long.

Before day one was over, Winnipeg had already signed three new players, adding experience in net, on defence, and up front as the team starts putting next season's roster together.

There's still plenty of offseason left, but it's a solid start.

Ferraro brings experience to the blue line, Skinner strengthens the goaltending group, and Gregor adds even more depth up front as the team prepares for next season.

Now the countdown to hockey gets even more exciting. It'll be fun to see how these new faces fit into the lineup once the puck drops this fall.

Just a scoop of gelato, a patio table, and some live music on the street.

Starting this Sunday, July 5th, a part of Corydon Avenue is going car-free for the first time as part of a new event called Open Corydon.

It's giving people more room to stroll, shop local, and enjoy everything that makes Little Italy one of Winnipeg's favourite neighbourhoods.

No more circling for parking, just park once and enjoy the walk.

Some shops are even setting up right on the sidewalk, including Tommy's Pizzeria, bringing back its sliced pizzas to go, making it perfect for a lazy afternoon of walking and snacking your way down the street.

And if you need a lift, there's a free shuttle running between Confusion Corner and Stafford Street, so you can hop on and off wherever you need.

It's the kind of Sunday made for grabbing your favourite people and turning a simple walk into a whole afternoon out.
