What's Happening in Winnipeg?

New High-Rise Project in East Exchange

Source: Stationpoint Photographic

As reported by The Winnipeg Free Press, construction at 127 Bannatyne is now underway on the first high-rise in the East Exchange in almost 50 years. This 10-story, mixed-use building is a labor of love for Alston Properties and Concord Projects.

With retail space on the ground floor and 80 high-end apartments above, this development is set to revitalize the downtown area. For those interested in urban living and supporting local growth, this project signifies a promising future for the East Exchange.

Honouring 153 Years of Treaty No. 1

On August 3rd, the 153rd anniversary of Treaty No. 1 was recently commemorated at Lower Fort Garry. Signed in 1871, this treaty established the foundation for coexistence between First Nations and settlers.

The event included ceremonies, traditional teachings, and a feast, honoring the ongoing relationship and commitment to reconciliation. This anniversary serves as a reminder of the importance of honoring the treaty's intentions and working towards a future that respects and upholds these historic agreements.

Siloam Mission’s Vertical Farming Innovation

As reported by CTV News, Siloam Mission is using vertical farming to help feed Winnipeg's homeless. Partnering with The Little Greenhouse that Could, Siloam Mission has installed a vertical garden wall to grow fresh vegetables for their daily meals.

This innovative approach ensures a consistent supply of produce and supports sustainable food practices. For the community, this project highlights the importance of local solutions in addressing food insecurity and supporting those in need.

The Forks Bids Farewell to Pancake House

Source: The Forks

The Original Pancake House has closed its doors at The Forks after 20 years, making way for new ventures. Sk8 Skates has temporarily moved into the space, bringing a fresh, youthful energy. While the departure of the Pancake House marks the end of an era, it also represents The Forks' ability to adapt. This change offers visitors a chance to explore new experiences and enjoy the evolving landscape of The Forks.
