Three Measles Exposure Locations Reported in Winnipeg

There’s a new health notice Winnipeg families may want to be aware of this week.

Manitoba health officials have identified three locations in the city where measles exposure may have occurred. Anyone who was at these places during the listed times is being asked to check their immunization records and watch for symptoms.

Here are the reported locations and times:

  • Eric Coy Arena

    • Feb. 28 from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

    • March 1 from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • Joy Fountain Church

    • March 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • J.H. Bruns Collegiate

    • March 2 from 1:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Public health officials say anyone who was at these locations during those times should check their immunization records and monitor for symptoms over the next few weeks.

Measles spreads easily through coughing or sneezing. Symptoms usually appear 7 to 21 days after exposure and can include:

  • Fever

  • Runny nose

  • Red eyes

  • A red rash that spreads across the body

If you or someone in your household may have been exposed, it’s important to monitor for symptoms and follow public health guidance.

City Updates

You Can Now Track Winnipeg Buses Live

Source: City of Winnipeg

Waiting for the bus just got a little easier in Winnipeg.

Transit riders can now see live bus locations on a map in the Winnipeg Transit app and Navigo trip planner, giving passengers a clearer idea of when their bus will arrive.

The new feature uses GPS tracking to show buses moving along their routes in near real time.

Here’s what you can now do:

  • Track buses live on a map while planning your trip

  • Use Explore Routes to see buses currently running along a route

  • Check the next five buses approaching a specific stop

  • Tap a bus icon to see when its location was last updated

This update comes after the city resolved GPS issues that affected the system last year. Officials say the technology is now working with the same accuracy as before.

P.S. If you know someone who takes the bus to work or school, send this to them so they know about the update.

Manitoba Seeks Public Input On New Rules For Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is quickly becoming part of everyday life. From tools we use online to systems that help make decisions behind the scenes.

But as AI grows, so do concerns around privacy, safety, and how personal information is used. Because of this, the Manitoba government is asking residents to help shape how the technology should be used in the province.

Here are some of the ideas that may be discussed:

  • Stronger privacy rules so people have clearer control over their personal data

  • Possible age limits for certain AI tools

  • Rules requiring companies to ask permission before using someone’s data

  • Protections against risks like deepfakes, identity theft, and biased algorithms

The feedback gathered from these consultations will help guide possible updates to Manitoba’s laws around technology and data use.

A date for the consultations has not been announced yet, but residents will have the chance to share their thoughts as the process moves forward.

Winnipeg Detox Centre Expands Care for Severe Drug Intoxication

Winnipeg’s 72-hour detox and protective care centre can now accept people experiencing severe intoxication from substances beyond alcohol.

Located on Disraeli Road, the facility allows individuals to stay for up to 72 hours under medical supervision while they recover and are connected with support services.

Here’s how the program works:

  • A person showing signs of severe drug intoxication is first assessed by an ER doctor

  • If needed, they can be transported to the facility by police

  • Individuals can be detained for up to 72 hours for monitoring and care

  • During that time, staff work to stabilize the person and connect them with addiction supports

Officials say the goal is to keep people safe during dangerous intoxication episodes and connect them with treatment and support services.
