Help Build the New Omand's Creek Pedestrian Bridge

If you've ever crossed the little bridge in Omand Park, you know it's seen better days. The pathways are steep, it floods often, and after years of wear and tear, it's ready for a refresh.

This week, the City unveiled the draft design for a brand new Omand's Creek Pedestrian Bridge, and it looks beautiful.

The new design raises the bridge higher to reduce flooding, rebuilds the pathways for accessibility, and keeps the natural feel of the park intact.

It's the kind of upgrade that quietly makes life better for everyone, whether you're walking the dog, biking through Wolseley, or pushing a stroller.

And the best part? Winnipeggers get to weigh in.

  • Online survey is open until June 14, 2026

  • Pop-up event at Omand Park, Tuesday, June 2, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

  • Pop-up at Wolseley Farmers Market, Tuesday, June 9, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Projects like this remind us how good it feels when our public spaces get the love they deserve. Wolseley already has so much character, and a thoughtful new bridge will only add to it.

Your feedback genuinely shapes what gets built, so if Omand Park is part of your world, this is your chance to leave a mark on it.

Restaurant of the Week: Three Winnipeg Spots On Canada's Best List

Three Winnipeg Restaurants Just Made Canada's Top 100

Winnipeg doesn't always get the credit it deserves when it comes to food. But this week, the rest of the country had no choice but to notice.

Canada's 100 Best, one of the most respected dining lists in the country, just dropped its 2026 rankings. And sitting right there among the best restaurants from coast to coast are three names from right here at home.

Here's who made the list:

  • Deer + Almond (85 Princess St.) came in at #50, marking their fourth year in a row on the list. After more than a decade in the Exchange, they're still serving some of the most creative, ever-changing menus in the city.

  • Peacock (1822 Grant Ave.) landed at #68. Chef Edward Lam's newest spot brings clean, layered pan-Asian flavours to Grant Avenue, and it just earned a national debut on the list.

  • NOLA (101–300 Tache Ave.) ranked #88 for the second year running. Their plates blend Pacific Northwest inspiration with Chinese culinary roots, and every bite feels intentional.

One Winnipeg spot on this list would be exciting. Three is something else entirely. It's a reminder of just how much talent is tucked into our restaurants, often run by chefs who've been quietly building something special for years.

So if you've been waiting for a reason to finally book that reservation, here are three of them.

Heads Up: Possible Hepatitis A Exposure at Two Winnipeg Spots

If you've been around the West Broadway area in the last few weeks, this one's worth a quick read.

Manitoba Health is letting Winnipeggers know about two locations where people may have been exposed to Hepatitis A:

  • Burger King at 333 Home St. between April 8 and April 23

  • Augustine United Church at 444 River Ave. on April 19

If you were at either spot during those times, keep an eye out for symptoms like fever, nausea, stomach pain, or jaundice. They can show up anywhere from two to seven weeks after exposure. If anything feels off, give your healthcare provider a call.

The good news is that vaccination can prevent Hepatitis A, even after exposure if it's caught early. Eligibility for the free vaccine has been expanded, and Health Links is available at 204-788-8200 to answer questions.

P.S. If you know someone who lives or works in the West Broadway area, this one's worth passing along.

Pan Am Pool Closing for Major Repairs

Source: City of Winnipeg

If Pan Am Pool is part of your routine, this is one to mark on the calendar.

Winnipeg's busiest aquatic centre is set to close to the public starting January 18, 2027 for a major rehabilitation project that's expected to take about 16 months.

The work includes concrete repairs to the main pool tank, deck, and dive towers, plus retiling and a new waterproof membrane.

A few things to know:

  • The main pool will be fully closed during construction

  • The east training tank, locker rooms, and dryland training area will stay open for select user groups

  • The project is budgeted at around $6 million

It's a long stretch without the pool, especially for the swim, dive, and water polo communities who rely on it.

But after nearly 60 years since the 1967 Pan American Games, the building is overdue for some real care so it can keep serving Winnipeg for years to come.

City Updates

Winnipeg's 2026 Construction Season Is Officially Underway

Nobody loves a detour. But if your morning commute has been bumpier than usual lately, there's a reason for it, and a lot of it is good news.

The City just announced its 2026 construction schedule, with about $156.8 million going toward local and regional street improvements this year.

It's part of a bigger six-year, $1.1 billion road renewal plan.

Here's what's coming this season:

  • 175 lane kilometres of road work

  • 50 sidewalk locations getting upgrades

  • 15 kilometres of new bike lanes and active transportation paths

  • Big projects on Edmonton Street, Kennedy Street, St. Mary Avenue, and St. Mary's Road

  • Protected bike lane upgrades on Sherbrook Street from Broadway to Cumberland

Yes, the cones and detours can be frustrating. But smoother roads, safer sidewalks, and better routes for everyone (drivers, cyclists, walkers, and transit users) are worth the patience.

Own a Piece of Jets History: Locker Room Stalls Up for Auction

Source: The Jets

For any Jets fan who's ever dreamed of having a real piece of the team in their basement, this one's pretty cool.

The Winnipeg Jets are giving their home dressing room a full overhaul this summer (the first major renovation since the team returned in 2011), and the old player stalls are now up for auction on the Jets Gear eBay store.

Here's what's on offer:

  • Each stall comes with the player's name bar and matching autograph

  • A certificate of authenticity from the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club

  • Auction closes the evening of Sunday, May 17, with staggered end times starting at 5 p.m.

The renovation will add 3,000 square feet of new space, including a new medical treatment area, upgraded workout space, and even a tunnel straight to the visitors' bench.

It's a big upgrade for the team, and a fun chance for fans to take a little piece of the old room home.

A Free Guide for Winnipeggers Thinking About Scaling Down

There's a season of life where the house starts to feel a little bigger than it needs to be.

The kitchen where birthdays were celebrated.
The hallway where school photos used to hang.
The yard you've shovelled, mowed, and raked for more years than you can count.

It's all held a lot of love.

But lately, the upkeep has started to take over. The weekends fill up with yard work. The to-do list keeps growing.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, you've started picturing a different kind of life. Less maintenance. More travel. A condo with no stairs, a tidy bungalow, or somewhere that just fits how you actually live now.

Nicole Hacault put together a free guide for Winnipeggers who are starting to think about it.

What's inside:

  • Signs it might be time to scale down

  • 4 questions to ask yourself before making the move

  • The real financial calculations (retirement, mortgage, maintenance)

  • Simple tips to make the transition feel smooth, not stressful

Most folks sit with this decision for years before doing anything about it. The guide won't push you. It'll just help you figure out where you actually stand, and what feels right next.
