$31 Million Dollars for Winnipeg’s Bay Building
The federal government has announced an additional $31 million to support the ongoing redevelopment efforts, bringing their total contribution to $96 million.
The Southern Chiefs' Organization (SCO), which acquired the building in 2022, is spearheading the project, named Wehwehneh Bahgahkinahgohn, meaning "It is visible" in Anishinaabemowin. This initiative aims to create a vibrant community space with affordable housing, a museum, art gallery, health center, childcare facility, and more.
This funding is a significant step toward economic reconciliation and the revitalization of downtown Winnipeg. Parts of the project are expected to open in 2026, marking the building's 100th anniversary.
Jets Name Scott Arniel as New Head Coach
Exciting news for Jets fans! Scott Arniel is stepping up as the new head coach of the Winnipeg Jets. After joining the team in 2022 as an associate coach under Rick Bowness, Arniel is now taking over the reins following Bowness's recent retirement announcement.
Arniel has been a key part of the Jets' success over the past two seasons, contributing to their impressive 98-57-9 record and two playoff appearances.
Having proven his leadership skills, he stepped in as head coach on three occasions, achieving a solid 15-7-3 record. His extensive coaching background, including stints with the Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers, and Washington Capitals, makes him a great fit for this role.
A press conference with Arniel and General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is scheduled for Today. Stay tuned for more updates!

Historic Church Faces Possible Demolition
Source: Winnipeg Architecture Foundation
Holy Trinity Anglican Church, a National Historic Site in downtown Winnipeg, is in danger of being demolished. The church needs $7 million for critical repairs due to structural issues.
Without these funds, the congregation may have to sell the property, potentially leading to its demolition. This could be the last year for this 140-year-old landmark. If you can help or know someone who can, now is the time to act!
Transit Funding Shortage Concerns
Source: Winnipeg Downtown Biz
Winnipeg's public transit is facing a $37-million budget shortfall, and it needs our support. Without additional funding, we could see cuts to services and longer wait times, making it harder for everyone to get around. The Transit Union warns that reduced funding could lead to fewer riders and even less revenue, creating a vicious cycle.
If we don’t act now, plans for new routes and electric buses might be delayed or canceled. Let’s work together to keep our transit system running smoothly and efficiently.
