What's Happening in Winnipeg?
Winnipegers Can’t Afford Festivals
Source: To Do Canada
Manitoba's festivals are struggling as people are watching their budgets more closely. Jon Hendricks at CTV News reports that Martin Roy from Festivals and Major Events Canada says inflation and the pandemic's effects are making it hard for many events.
Zachary Rushing from the Winnipeg International Jazz Festival notes that fans are more careful about spending. Similarly, Dauphin’s Countryfest is seeing fewer advance ticket sales, which are crucial for funding.
But on the upside, the Winnipeg Folk Festival is doing well with strong ticket sales, showing that some traditions are hard to shake. Despite these challenges, festivals are determined to give everyone a great experience! Click the button below for the full story.
Blue Bombers Hit by Another Injury
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are facing another setback as star running back Brady Oliveira is out with a knee injury. After receiver Kenny Lawler’s recent arm injury, this is another blow to the team's offense. On a positive note, linebacker Adam Bighill returned to the lineup, bringing some much-needed strength to the defense.
Pothole Repairs in Winnipeg
Winnipeg’s roads are notorious for potholes, but city crews are on it! As reported by Sam Thompson at Global News, Mayor Scott Gillingham announced that by the end of May, crews had filled nearly 135,000 potholes.
The mayor urges drivers to be patient and cautious around construction zones for worker safety. While construction season adds to the commute hassle, it’s essential for long-term road improvements. With a $140 million construction budget this year, we can expect smoother rides ahead!
