Hey Winnipeggers!

First off, a huge thank you to everyone who ordered The Digest Card, and to those of you who grabbed more than one, you’re amazing! Your support truly means the world to us, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Oh, and by the way—anyone who bought 3 or more cards? We’re throwing in an extra one for free! If you haven’t ordered yet, you can still get this bonus if you grab 3 or more now. Just a little way to say thank you for your incredible support.

We’ve got just a few left, so if you’re still thinking about it, this is kind of a last call. Once these are gone, we won’t be able to restock them anytime soon, so now’s your chance!

For those of you who’ve already purchased, we’re packing everything up and planning to deliver on Friday morning. If you see us out and about, give us a wave or say hi! We’ll be moving quickly to get everything to you, but we’ll try to stop and chat if we can. Check your mailbox at the end of the day Friday for your delivery!

Thanks again for making this such a success—it really helps support not just us but other local businesses too. Let me know if you have any questions, and if you’re still thinking about buying, now’s the time! ❤️

Canada Post’s Month-Long Strike Ends

Yesterday, the month-long Canada Post strike officially ended. Workers are back on the job, which is a win for everyone—but think of this as a timeout in the middle of a game. There’s still a lot to sort out, and it’ll take time to clear the huge backlog of mail and packages.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • What happened: The strike began on Nov. 15, with 55,000 postal workers asking for better wages, pensions, and health benefits.

  • The solution (for now): After weeks of stalled talks, the Canada Industrial Relations Board ordered employees back to work. Postal operations restarted at 8 a.m. yesterday.

  • What’s next: Canada Post has a mountain of delayed mail to tackle. Meanwhile, a commission will review the root issues of the dispute and deliver a report in May to guide future negotiations.

It’s great to see things moving in the right direction, but here’s to hoping both sides can find a permanent fix that works for everyone.

If you’re waiting on something in the mail—hang tight! It should be on it’s way soon!

City Updates

Explore Manitoba’s Hidden Winter Trails

Source: Travel Manitoba

Manitoba is home to some of the most beautiful trails, but let’s be honest—most of us haven’t explored even half of them. This winter, that might change. The Manitoba government just announced nearly $658,000 in funding to upgrade walking, biking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling trails across the province.

Here’s a peek at what’s being improved:

  • Clearwater Lake Outdoor Club: Cross-country ski trails in Clearwater Lake Provincial Park ($44,500).

  • Eastman Snopals Inc.: Snowmobile trails in Lac du Bonnet ($100,000).

  • And 10 more trails across Manitoba are receiving upgrades.

Not only does this make winter activities more accessible, but it also supports rural communities and encourages Manitobans to stay active, connect with nature, and spend quality time outdoors.

With free provincial park entry in February and a new Manitoba Winter Trails Day set for Feb. 8, it’s the perfect time to embrace winter adventures.

Holiday Checkstop Program – Week 2 Results

We’re back with the latest on Winnipeg’s Holiday Checkstop Program, running throughout December to keep our roads safe.

Here’s how Week 2 shaped up:

  • 1,018 vehicles stopped

  • 35 impaired driving incidents, including:

    • 6 criminal impaired driving charges

    • 29 roadside prohibitions

    • 1 failed drug test (cocaine)

  • 37 traffic tickets

  • 1 warrant executed

These results show how important programs like this are in keeping our roads safer for everyone.

The Checkstop Program is a reminder that safety comes first. Let’s watch out for one another this holiday season—plan a ride, call a cab, or designate a sober driver.

Let’s make this season one to celebrate, not regret.

MITT Launches New Programs

With the job market being as tough as it is, finding a clear path to a rewarding career can feel overwhelming. That’s where MITT is stepping up.

As reported by The Winnipeg Sun, they’ve launched two new programs—one in cybersecurity and another in health care—designed to meet Manitoba’s growing demand for skilled workers.

The Medical Assistant and Patient Care diploma prepares students to enter health care quickly, addressing the province’s need for support staff in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. Meanwhile, the Cybersecurity Analyst advanced diploma focuses on equipping students to protect businesses against digital threats, a skill set that’s becoming more and more indispensable by the day.

With scholarships available, including awards for women and Indigenous students, MITT is making these programs accessible to those ready to take the next step. So be sure to check them or share this with someone who might be interested.

$1.1M Grant For Winnipeg’s Community Centres

Thirteen community centres across the city are getting a much-needed upgrade thanks to $1.1 million in grants from the City of Winnipeg’s Community Centre Renovation Grant Program (CCRGP).

For so many of us, community centres are the heart of our neighborhoods—hosting everything from hockey games to family gatherings and local events. These upgrades will help keep them safe, welcoming, and ready for generations to come.

The $1.1 million in funding will go toward repairs, upgrades, safety improvements, and renovations to make these spaces even better for everyone.

It’s great to see the city investing in places that bring us together. If you want your local centre to be next, the grant program opens again in March!

Jets Sign NHL’s First Chinese-Born Player

Source: Winnipeg Jets X

The Jets just signed Kevin He to a three-year, entry-level deal, marking a historic moment as he becomes the first Chinese-born player to sign an NHL contract.

At just 18 years old, Kevin has been making waves as captain of the OHL’s Niagara IceDogs, tallying an impressive 23 goals and 43 points in 29 games this season. Drafted by the Jets in the fourth round, he’s not just breaking records—he’s bringing new representation to the game we all love.
