Dog Adoptions Urgently Needed in Winnipeg

City of Winnipeg / Tangela is one of the dogs currently available for adoption at Winnipeg Animal Services

Winnipeg Animal Services is overwhelmed, and they need the community’s help. There are more dogs in care than they can handle, and this week might be the best time to step in!

To help more dogs find homes, they’ve reduced adoption fees to just $175 (normally $330) until Friday, July 4.

Here’s what you should know:

  • Adoption includes spay/neuter, vaccines, tattoo, microchip, and license

  • You can visit in person at 1057 Logan Ave to see all the dogs.

  • Open Mon to Fri (12 to 6) and Sat to Sun (12 to 5)

  • And even if you’re not ready to adopt? Call 311 to ask about fostering

Even if you already have a pet, keeping them licensed helps others get home quicker and makes room for those still waiting.

Let’s come together and give these dogs the futures they deserve. Dogs like Kirby, Tangela, and Maple are ready. They just need someone to say yes!

Even though many evacuees have now returned home and the wildfires have slowed down a bit, there’s still a lot to keep an eye on. Some fires are still burning, and the fire risk remains high across parts of the province.

Fire danger remains high in the southern half of the province and parts of the northeast. While some progress has been made, several large fires are still out of control.

  • 17 wildfires are still active, with large ones near Flin Flon, Lynn Lake, and Cross Lake

$1M of Accessibility Upgrades at 1010 Sinclair

Source: 1010 Sinclair Street

If you’ve ever had a loved one who uses a wheelchair or needs extra support to live on their own, you know how much the right space can change everything.

That’s exactly what 1010 Sinclair is about. It’s home to Winnipeggers living with physical disabilities, run by Ten Ten Sinclair, a local non-profit that’s been helping people live independently for 50 years.

And now, thanks to a $1 million investment from the Manitoba government, the building just got a big upgrade to make it even more accessible.

Here’s what’s new:

  • 12 units now have wider doors and automatic openers

  • New flooring in both apartments and shared spaces to improve mobility

  • All designed to support dignity, comfort, and independent living

Ten Ten Sinclair has been part of our city since 1975, creating real impact for people who just want to live on their own terms.

New Program Helps Build More Housing in Winnipeg

We know this won’t apply to most people reading this, but if you know a developer, planner, or anyone building multi-family housing in the city, this could be a big deal.

The City just opened applications for a new program called the Multi-Family Sustainable Housing Infrastructure Program (MSHIP).

The goal? To help cover infrastructure costs like water, wastewater, and drainage, so we can build more homes, faster.

A lot of areas in Winnipeg can’t support new housing because the pipes underground just aren’t ready. This program helps fix that.

Here’s how it works:

  • Up to $10,000 per unit is available to cover eligible infrastructure costs

  • Program is open until September 2, 2025

  • Up to 1,200 new homes could be built with this support

  • Total budget: $12 million, funded by the Housing Accelerator Fund

It’s not flashy, but it’s one of those behind-the-scenes changes that could help make housing a little more affordable and accessible for everyone down the road.

So if you or someone you know is looking to develop multi-family housing, be sure to share the link below with them.
