Rapid Transit Is Officially Being Planned for Downtown Winnipeg

Source: Engage Winnipeg
Getting through downtown Winnipeg could look very different in the future.
The City of Winnipeg has officially started the planning process for rapid transit in the heart of the city.
The idea is simple: dedicated bus lanes that keep transit moving, separate from regular traffic.
Faster trips, more reliable service, and a system that's easier to use every single day.
Here's where things stand right now:
Stakeholder meetings begin in June with residents, workers, and business owners along the proposed corridors
Three rounds of public engagement are planned from fall 2026 through spring 2028
A full design with cost estimates will be ready by summer 2028
The $7 million design project is jointly funded by the City, Province, and Federal government
There’s no construction funding in place yet, but this is the beginning of a project that could completely reshape how people move through downtown Winnipeg in the years ahead.
And for a city that continues to grow, better transit means more reliable commutes, easier connections, and a downtown that feels more connected overall.
P.S. Share this with someone who takes transit downtown, they’ll want to see what’s coming!

Canada Road Safety Week Is Here, and Winnipeg's Roads Need Your Attention

Source: City of Winnipeg
Spring in Winnipeg means the roads get busy fast. Cyclists are back, motorcycles are out, and construction crews are setting up across the city.
With so much happening on the roads at once, Canada Road Safety Week is running from May 12 to 18, and the reminder behind it is a good one: every road, every day, everyone has a role to play.
A few things worth keeping in mind when you're out there:
Manitoba law requires drivers to leave at least one metre of space when passing a cyclist or a power-assisted bike
Slow down and move over for tow truck operators, roadside assistance workers, and emergency vehicles
Construction zone speed limits are reduced, and fines double if you're caught speeding, even if no workers are present
In 2025, 62 road workers were injured due to traffic, up from 40 the year before
These aren't just rules on paper.
Real people are working alongside traffic every single day, and a little extra caution from drivers goes a long way.
So if you or someone you know drives often, click the link below to check road safety rules before construction season ramps up even more.

City Updates
Water Main Flushing Starts This Week

Source: City of Winnipeg
If you live in St. Boniface, St. Vital, or Transcona, you may notice something a little different with your water over the next few months.
The City's annual water main flushing program kicks off today, May 13, starting in St. Boniface East and St. Boniface before working its way across the southeast end of the city.
The process works by pushing water through the pipes at high speed, cleaning the inside and testing valves and hydrants along the way.
Here's what to expect while crews are in your area:
The process takes 30 to 60 minutes per street and does not cut off your water service
Your water pressure may drop temporarily while crews are working
You might see discoloured or cloudy water afterward. If that happens, run your cold tap for a few minutes until it clears. If it's still cloudy after two to three hours, call 311
You'll also get a heads up before any of this happens. Households will receive a notice two to four days before crews arrive on their street, so you won't be caught off guard.
It’s one of those behind-the-scenes things most people never think about, but it plays a big role in keeping Winnipeg’s water safe and reliable year-round.
P.S. Share this with neighbours or family in southeast Winnipeg so they know what to expect!

Heads Up: Measles Exposure Reported at RRC Polytech
Just a quick heads up for anyone who was on campus recently.
Manitoba Health has confirmed a potential measles exposure at RRC Polytech's Notre Dame Campus at 2055 Notre Dame Ave.
The exposure dates are May 6 and May 7, between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
If you were there during those times, here's what to do:
Check your immunization records and make sure your MMR or MMRV vaccine is up to date
If you were born in 1970 or later, have never been vaccinated, and have never had measles, a vaccine is recommended
Watch for symptoms including fever, runny nose, red eyes, and a red blotchy rash
If you feel unwell, stay home and call your health-care provider before heading in
As more people are out and about this spring, it’s a good reminder to stay aware and keep an eye on updated exposure locations across the province.
P.S. Share this with anyone you know at RRC or who spends time around campus.
Journey’s Final Frontier Tour Is Coming To Winnipeg This Fall

Source: Canada Life Centre
Don't stop believin' that Winnipeg's concert announcements are done, because they're clearly not.
Journey is bringing their Final Frontier Tour to the city this fall, and given the name, this could genuinely be one of the last chances to see them live.
Here's what you need to know:
The show is on September 29 at Canada Life Centre, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets go on sale Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m.
The band has been a part of the soundtrack of so many people's lives.
Over 100 million records sold, 19 top 40 singles, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2017, and "Don't Stop Believin'" sitting at over one billion streams worldwide.
They've earned every bit of that reputation, and a Winnipeg crowd is going to feel it.
So if you grew up listening to Journey, or know someone who did, this might be one to plan for early.

And speaking of big shows, Journey is far from the only act coming to Winnipeg this year.
We put together a full list of every major concert happening in the city in 2026, and the lineup is something else. From Chance the Rapper and AC/DC to Weird Al and the Lord of the Rings in Concert, there is genuinely something for everyone this year.

Be the Reason a Child Learns to Ride a Bike
For a lot of kids, learning to ride a bike is just part of growing up. But for children living with a disability, that doesn't always come easy.
Variety Manitoba's Bike Camp exists to change that, and it only works because of volunteers.
The camp runs two weeks this summer at Transcona East End Arena, June 29 to July 10. Every rider is paired with two volunteer spotters, so every signup counts.
Here's what to expect:
Walk, jog, or run alongside a rider during a 75-minute session
Encourage and physically support riders as they build confidence
Cover roughly 2 miles per session, with short breaks
Must be 18 or older, volunteer hours documented, and snacks and lunch provided
One week of your summer could be the moment a child remembers for the rest of their life.
P.S. Share this with your family, friends and coworkers. The more volunteers, the more kids get to ride!
