A message from Canlan Sports!

How to Plan Ahead for Fall Sports (Before Spots Fill Up)
If your summer isn’t complete without the sound of skates on ice, you’re in luck. Canlan Sports Winnipeg still has plenty going on this August—and if you’ve been thinking about getting back on the ice (or getting your kid into something new), now’s the time.
Here’s what’s happening at Canlan Sports in the complex:

Restaurant of the Week: Nucci’s Gelati

If you’ve ever walked past Nucci’s Gelati around lunchtime, you’ve probably noticed, it’s always packed. And for good reason!
Even though most folks know them for their gelato (and yes, it’s incredible), it’s their homestyle Italian lunches that keep locals coming back week after week.
Here’s why you’ll love it:
Everything’s made from scratch with no frozen shortcuts
Authentic Italian comfort food, just like Nonna makes
Huge portions and warm, cozy vibes
Flexible with allergies, as every dish is made to order
And the best part? They’ve been feeding Winnipeg for nearly 50 years
You’ll find pastas, panini, and gelato in all the best flavours like pistachio, tiramisu, and lemon sorbetto. And with so many Italians packed into one little space, it honestly feels like you’re at a big family dinner.
Just one tip: make a reservation if you’re going at lunch. It fills up fast.
📍 643 Corydon Avenue
A little slice of Italy, right in the heart of Winnipeg.

City Updates
New Cricket Fields Open at La Barrière Park
Winnipeg’s strength has always come from the people who call it home—from every background, every culture, and every corner of the world. And now, one of the world’s most loved sports has a real home here too.
This week, the City of Winnipeg and the Manitoba Cricket Association officially opened a brand new high-performance cricket facility at La Barrière Park.
Here’s what’s now part of the park:
3 high-performance cricket pitches, plus 4 practice nets and a full batting cage
3 shade structures and over 100 trees added to make the space welcoming
More than $1.1 million invested, including $950,000 from Waverley West Councillor Janice Lukes
And it’s already producing talent for Team Canada’s World Cup squad and national youth teams
As cricket keeps growing in schools and neighbourhoods, this gives young players and newcomers a place to build something special.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or just curious, head to La Barrière Park and check out a match this summer. It’s a reminder of how sports can bring us all a little closer.

New Campaign Gives Winnipeg Youth a Way Out
There are kids in our city right now who feel stuck. Stuck in violence, in fear, in choices they never really had. That’s what makes this new campaign so important.
The Link, along with Winnipeg Police and people who’ve been there themselves, just launched Ghost Gang Life. A campaign made to help youth aged 13 to 16 find a way out of gang life.
Here’s how it works:
Bold videos on Snapchat and TikTok are made to speak directly to teens in their own words
Each video ends with one clear message: text 204-900-6010 for help
Offering 24/7 support from trained staff at The Link
Covering everything from drug trafficking to extortion, violence, and human trafficking
Leaving a gang isn’t easy. But having someone to talk to, any time of day, can make all the difference.
So, if you’ve got teens in your life, let them know this exists. Sometimes, just knowing there’s another option is enough to take the first step.
