Help Build Winnipeg's River Trail This Winter
If you love Winnipeg’s winter river trail, here’s your chance to make it even better! The Forks Foundation is inviting locals to sponsor a piece of the Nestaweya River Trail through their Trail Together campaign. With a $50 donation, you can “adopt” a metre of the trail and have your name—or a loved one’s—featured right on it.
This community-driven trail draws hundreds of thousands each season, bringing skaters, skiers, and winter lovers to The Forks. And now with over 80 donations already in, the support is growing strong! Since the trail doesn’t get government funding, each donation keeps it alive for everyone to enjoy. Plus, you’ll receive a certificate and a tax receipt as a thank-you.
If you want to help, click below to find out more about donating and supporting one of Winnipeg’s favorite winter spots!
More Say in Plan 20-50 for Manitoba Communities
There’s been a mix of reactions to the Plan 20-50 framework. Especially with communities feeling like they didn’t have much of a say in joining. But now, Manitoba’s giving municipalities the choice to opt in or out of this regional plan, making it easier for local areas around Winnipeg to decide what works best for them.
This shift lets towns and cities in the Capital Region make their own call on growth and planning, without being locked into a one-size-fits-all approach. For Winnipeggers and surrounding communities, it’s a win for local voices. The province listened to feedback, and this change means more freedom to shape our own neighborhoods.
The government is also reworking bigger planning laws to speed up approvals and make processes fairer. This step is a big move toward a planning approach that’s more about what works for the community—on our terms.

Centre Flavie
With winter on the way, we’re all getting ready to layer up. But for many in our community, staying warm isn’t as simple as reaching into a closet. That’s where Centre Flavie steps in.
Centre Flavie provides essential items—furniture, appliances, clothing, and more—to families in need, all free of charge. Every day, they help between 60 and 100 families by sorting and distributing donations from generous Manitobans like you.
Here’s how you can lend a hand:
Donate warm clothing like jackets, ski pants, and winter boots.
Contribute funds to help keep their mission running.
Volunteer your time to sort and organize items for families in need.
Every act of kindness helps keep someone warm this winter. Together, we can make a difference and ensure everyone in our community has the basics to stay cozy.

Students Honor Veterans at No Stone Left Alone Ceremony
Source: No Stone Left Alone
As reported by CTV News, Hundreds of students took a moment on Monday this week to honor Canada’s veterans in a touching ceremony at Transcona Cemetery’s Field of Honour.
Through the No Stone Left Alone initiative, students placed poppies on soldiers’ graves, saluting the vets in attendance. It’s a powerful reminder of the sacrifices that shaped our country, and it gives students a chance to connect beyond the classroom.
Event organizer Peter Martin noted the impact, sharing how seriously each student took the moment. For young Winnipeggers, standing at attention and paying respects in person creates a lasting impression, teaching them the true meaning of Remembrance Day. Another ceremony will be held at Brookside Cemetery today, continuing this moving tradition of gratitude and reflection across the city.
Football Finals Sold-Out
Big game coming up, Winnipeg! The Blue Bombers are playing the Saskatchewan Roughriders this Saturday, Nov 9, at 5:30 p.m. at the Princess Auto Stadium. The stadium’s already sold out, so you know it’s going to be packed with fans ready to cheer the Bombers on.
If you didn’t get a ticket, no worries—head to your favorite local bar or watch at home with friends. It’s going to be a great night to show some Bomber pride. Let’s get loud and bring the energy!
Actor Henry Winkler comes to Winnipeg
As reported by The Winnipeg Free Press, Henry Winkler is in town filming his new movie Normal, and he’s already loving Winnipeg! With a cast featuring Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), this film’s got some serious star power. Winkler plays a small-town mayor caught up in a wild bank heist—sounds like we’re in for a good one.
But it’s not just about the big names; having this production here is a win for our local film scene, too. Shoots like this bring opportunities for local talent and crew, giving Manitoba’s film industry a chance to shine. And hey, with the Nobody crew (another Manitoba-made hit) back in action for part 2, it’s clear Hollywood sees something special here.
Here’s to more stars, more stories, and more Winnipeg moments on the big screen!
City Updates
Winnipeg’s Street Census Expands to Reach More People
Winnipeg’s fourth street census is underway, gathering essential insights into homelessness across the city. This year, the census is expanding its reach to get a clearer picture and support those who need it most.
As reported by CBC News, here’s what’s new:
Extended timeline: For the first time, the census will run over four days instead of just one.
Broader reach: Volunteers are collecting data not just downtown but in surrounding areas, too.
200 volunteers strong: Outreach teams and volunteers are visiting shelters, community spaces, and encampments.
In-depth stories: Beyond the numbers, the census aims to capture the real experiences and challenges people face.
Organizers hope the results will highlight service gaps and guide funding for lasting support. This census is all about understanding, empathy, and sparking change for those who need it most in our community.
