Seth Jarvis Is Bringing The Stanley Cup To Winnipeg Today, And It's FREE!
Most of us will never get within a hundred feet of the Stanley Cup. Today you can walk right up to it.
All thanks to Seth Jarvis. Before he was an NHL forward he was a kid in Tuxedo, shooting pucks in the driveway and calling his own Cup-winning goals.
In June, he actually did it.
The 24-year-old won the Stanley Cup with Carolina, beating Vegas in six games, and it was former Jet Nikolaj Ehlers who handed him the Cup on the ice. He called it the greatest moment of his life.
Today he's bringing it back to Tuxedo Community Centre, a few blocks from where he learned to play.
Here's what to know:
1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at 368 Southport Blvd
Free, all ages, no tickets or registration
Two hours is the full window, so get there early
Bring a camera. This isn't the kind of thing that comes around twice.

Together with Paragon Living!

Still Looking for a Place Before September?
Everyone who found a place near U of M found it in May.
What's left in August is what nobody else wanted.
A basement suite with one window.
Laundry that means quarters and a walk.
A landlord who swears he'll fix the tap.
And a bus route with two transfers, which is fine in September and brutal at minus thirty.
You sign it anyway because you're out of time. Then you live with it until next May.
But you don't have to.
250 Centre Street has move-in ready suites open now and for September. Nothing to wait on, nothing to fix.
The transit stop is right out front. U of M one way, downtown the other. No car, no parking pass, no windshield to scrape at 7:40 in the morning.
In every suite:
In-suite washer and dryer, so laundry means walking ten feet instead of hauling a bag across the city
A dishwasher and quartz countertops, more kitchen than most first apartments give you
A walk-out balcony for the four months Winnipeg makes it worth having
Free wifi included, one less bill to set up
Pet friendly, so the dog or cat comes with you
And in the building:
A gym, so there's no membership to pay for
A multi-purpose room, for when it's your turn to host
Every week you wait, the list of what's left gets shorter.
P.S. Not moving a student in? Same suites either way. Immediate availability if you're between places or ready out of your current lease.

Restaurant of the Week: Cinnamoon Bakery

The New Bakery Making Pastries That Look Like Fruit
Some desserts you eat. Others you photograph first and feel a little bad cutting into.
Cinnamoon opened last week at 52 Albert Street, and the menu is full of the second kind. The mousse desserts come shaped like real fruit, mangoes and peaches and lemons, glossy enough that people have been posting them all over social media.
Eclairs in flavours like Pistachio Mango
A lemon cake with Limoncello in it
Fruit tartlets and fresh puff pastries
Custom cakes where you pick the flavour, the design and the shape
And plenty more behind the glass
The space is bright and modern, tucked into one of the old brick buildings the Exchange is known for.
Open 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday to Sunday.
P.S. Share this with the friend or family member you'd want along for the first visit.

City Updates
Manitoba Pharmacists Can Now Prescribe Birth Control
Running low on birth control is stressful enough. Finding out your doctor's next opening is weeks away makes it worse.
As of Friday, your pharmacy can handle it. Manitoba has expanded what pharmacists are allowed to do, and trained ones can now assess patients and prescribe birth control directly.
What that covers:
Birth control pills
Hormonal patches
Vaginal rings
Contraceptive injections
And if you're on injections, that's now one trip instead of two. The pharmacist can write the prescription and give you the shot in the same visit, with no extra cost.
With a valid Manitoba Health card, you can get up to three assessments and four injections per benefit year at no cost.
One thing before you go. Pharmacists have to finish approved training first, so not every location offers it yet. Call ahead and ask.
So if your prescription is running low and your doctor is booked, the closer option is now your neighbourhood pharmacy.

Louise Bridge Is Closing For One Week
If the Louise Bridge is part of your usual drive, you’ll want to find another way across the river this week.
The bridge will close for road resurfacing from 6 a.m. today, August 10, until 6 a.m. next Monday, August 17.
Here are two nearby routes you can take instead:
Disraeli Bridge
Provencher Bridge
If you’re walking or biking, you can still cross using the west sidewalk throughout the closure.
The detour may add a little time to your trip, especially during the morning rush. It’s worth checking your route before you leave so you don’t get all the way there and have to turn around.

Manitoba's First Window-Service Liquor Mart Just Opened

Source: MBLL
There are no shelves to browse and no aisles to walk down. You read a menu, order at a window, and someone hands it over.
Manitoba's first window-service Liquor Mart opened Thursday inside the Save-On-Foods at 1399 McPhillips Street, in Northgate Shopping Centre.
Everything sits behind glass, so an employee gets it for you. It's a different setup from the Liquor Mart Express counters already in some grocery stores.
How it works:
Pick from 240 options on a digital menu, beer, wine, spirits and coolers
Order and pay at the front counter
Debit and credit only, no cash
Anyone who looks under 25 will be asked for photo ID
The whole thing is about 580 square feet, with a few Manitoba-made options on the list.
Open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
If it goes well, expect more of these around the province.

Thousands Were There Last Year. Most of Winnipeg Missed It.
If you love country, or you live with someone who does, this is the one night all year that's built for you.
Country Rising Festival is at Blue Cross Park on Friday, August 21. BigXthaPlug, Corey Kent, Dylan Marlowe, Redferrin and Kalsey Kulyk. Country mixed with hip-hop and rock, five artists, one stage, outdoors.
Five artists on one stage at Blue Cross Park
Friday, August 21, one of the last big outdoor nights of the summer
Country blended with hip-hop, rock and southern swagger
Thousands packed the park for this last year
Shows this size usually skip us. They play Toronto, they play Calgary, and Winnipeg watches it go by a week later. This one stopped here.
Tickets are available now, but the closer this gets to the 21st the harder they are to come by, and the good ones go first.
P.S. Forward this to the group chat, and to anyone in your life who loves country music. They'll thank you for it.
