Arlington Bridge Demolition Begins Next Week

Source: Winnipeg Architecture Foundation

A lot of Winnipeggers have memories tied to the Arlington Bridge, and now the next chapter is officially beginning.

The city says removal of the century-old bridge is expected to begin as early as June 1, marking the first major step toward eventually building a brand-new replacement for the North End.

The current bridge has been closed since 2023 after engineers found it was no longer safe to repair.

Here’s what’s happening next:

  • Work will begin on the south portion of the bridge near Logan Avenue

  • Crews will gradually remove sections over the next six months

  • Traffic around Arlington and Logan may be affected at times, though full road closures are not expected

  • In 2027, crews will return to remove the remaining northern section near Dufferin Avenue

  • A new bridge is now being designed to be safer, more accessible, and built for future generations

For many people in the North End, the bridge has always been more than just infrastructure. It’s been part of daily commutes, family routines, and a connection between neighbourhoods for generations.

And while it’s hard seeing such a historic Winnipeg landmark come down, many residents are hopeful about what comes next.

Winnipeg’s Biggest FREE Summer Market Is Back Next Month

There's nothing quite like a Winnipeg summer weekend spent wandering rows of local makers, snacking on something fresh, and bumping into half the neighbourhood along the way.

That's exactly what the Summer of Locals brings back next month, and this year it's bigger than ever.

Winnipeg's largest outdoor summer market returns to Outlet Collection Winnipeg for three weekends, and the whole thing is completely free to attend:

  • June 20–21

  • July 4–5

  • and August 8–9

Each weekend is packed with the best parts of summer in one place:

  • 60–80+ local vendors and makers

  • Bouncy castles, Disney characters, and family activities

  • Fresh food and treats

  • Live music throughout the weekend

  • A full weekend of shopping, community, and good summer fun

Here's the part most people don't see.

Behind every one of these weekends is a team of locals who show up early, stay late, and make the whole thing run.

Here's how you can be a part of it. This year, that team is looking for a few more hands, and you don't need much time to pitch in.

Even a single two-hour shift makes a real difference! You'll meet new people, support local businesses, and get to say you helped make one of Winnipeg's biggest summer traditions happen.

P.S. Share this with anyone who loves local markets and wants to be part of something special this summer!
