Manitoba Extends State of Emergency Due to Ongoing Wildfires

Source: CCPA
It’s been a tough summer for many people across Manitoba. With wildfires still burning and smoke hanging in the air some days, the province just announced they’re extending the state of emergency until August 22.
And honestly, it makes sense. Fires are still active, and we need to keep the right support in place to protect communities, especially in the north.
Here’s what to know about the extension:
It gives the province more power to coordinate resources and evacuations
It helps keep support flowing for impacted communities
With the focus on prevention, protection, and making sure crews can respond fast
If you're wondering how to help, here are a few easy ways to start:
Volunteer or donate to local emergency response funds
Stay updated and follow burn bans, even for small backyard fires
Share info with friends or family in affected areas
And if you're able to, support evacuees through food banks or housing offers

Winnipeg Launches Canada’s First 60-Foot Zero-Emission Bus

Source: City of Winnipeg
There’s something new rolling through the city this week, and it’s a quiet, electric step toward a cleaner future. Winnipeg Transit just put Canada’s first 60-foot zero-emission bus on the road.
It’s part of a bigger push to make our transit system more sustainable, and it’s all happening right here, first.
Here’s what to know:
The new buses are Winnipeg’s biggest yet, made locally by New Flyer
They’ll run on weekday mornings and early afternoons during their first 30 days
The goal is to cut emissions and improve air quality throughout the city
The city is testing two versions: battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell buses
This is just the start of a longer journey: 90 zero-emission buses are coming thanks to major funding, and the city’s testing how they’ll hold up in our weather before going full steam ahead.
