Happy Friday, Winnipeg!

What a week it's been. Tuesday's storm was one of the roughest we've seen in a while, with heavy rain, hail, and flooding that knocked out power for thousands. A lot of you are still cleaning up and waiting on the lights, so if that's you this morning, hang in there.

There's more rain in the forecast today and into Saturday, so keep the rubber boots by the door. The good news? Sunshine is on the way for Sunday.

It's been a hard stretch, but Manitobans always show up for each other when it counts. This week was no different.

So grab your coffee, settle in, and let's dive into what's happening around Winnipeg.

In today’s edition:

Manitoba’s Storm Update: Flooding, Outages, & What You Need to Know

It's been a challenging week for many Manitobans.

Heavy rain, severe winds, flooding, and power outages hit communities hard across the province, and many people are still working through the cleanup.

The good news is that crews and emergency responders continue to work around the clock, and support is available for those who need it.

Here's where things stand heading into the weekend:

  • Flood warnings remain in effect between Winnipeg and Lake Winnipeg, including Stonewall, Woodlands, Inwood, Petersfield, and Selkirk

  • City crews are still clearing downed trees, blocked drains, and flooded roadways across Winnipeg

  • More rain is expected in parts of eastern and northeastern Manitoba this weekend

  • The province has activated the Disaster Financial Assistance Program across the province to help cover uninsurable losses

  • Emergency Social Services are also available to help affected families with immediate needs

If you're looking for the latest flood warnings, safety information, or details on available supports, be sure to check the provincial flooding website below.

And if you're heading out this weekend, conditions are still changing in some areas, so it's worth taking a few extra minutes to plan ahead before you go:

  • Avoid flooded roads and underpasses, even if they look passable

  • Treat non-working traffic lights as four-way stops

  • Stay clear of rivers, creeks, and fast-moving water

  • Check road conditions before travelling, as closures and washouts remain possible in some areas

Manitoba has always been good at pulling together when things get hard, and this week was no different.

P.S. Share this with friends and family so they have the latest information heading into the weekend!

Here's the thing. Those summers go fast. And the kids in your life are only this age once.

The EX is about the easiest way to hand them a day they'll actually remember. It opens today and runs just ten days, through June 21 at The Exhibition Park.

Then it's gone for another whole year.

And there is a LOT packed into those ten days:

  • 300+ hours of free live entertainment across three stages

  • 55+ food options, from fair classics to brand new treats

  • Special events like Marriage on the Midway, a Mardi Gras parade, Pokémon GO Day, and a DJ foam party

  • Shopping markets, creative competitions, and a free family fun zone for the kids

Ten days. Once a summer. That's it.

Wab Kinew Continues to Hold Canada's Highest Premier Approval Rating

A new national poll has Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew at the top of the rankings once again.

According to the latest survey from the Angus Reid Institute, 62% of Manitobans approve of Kinew’s performance, giving him the highest approval rating of any premier in Canada.

A few highlights from the poll:

  • Kinew is the only premier in Canada with approval above 60%

  • He sits 12 points ahead of the next closest provincial leader

  • The survey was conducted in May with 1,803 Canadian adults drawn from all 343 federal ridings across the country

  • His rating is up slightly from the last survey in March, showing the support has held steady

And it's not hard to see why.

This week alone, Kinew was on the ground in Swan River and Minitonas, walking through flood-affected communities and making sure help was on the way.

Manitoba is showing the rest of the country what strong, community-first leadership looks like. And that's something worth being proud of.

Last Chance to Shape the New Omand's Creek Pedestrian Bridge

Source: Engage Winnipeg

As we've mentioned before, the pedestrian bridge over Omand's Creek is getting a long-overdue replacement.

The bridge floods regularly, the paths are steep, and it's simply not easy to use for a lot of people.

The good news?

A new design is ready, and the city wants your thoughts before things are finalized. The survey closes June 14, so this is your last chance to weigh in.

Here's what the proposed new bridge would include:

  • A higher, wider bridge with accessible paths and better views of the creek

  • Gathering spaces with seating and improved lighting for year-round use

  • Native plants and restored creek edges to protect local wildlife

  • And cultural elements that reflect the history and character of the park

The project team says community feedback has already helped shape the design, and this final round of input will help determine how the finished project moves forward.

So if you use the park, live nearby, or simply enjoy seeing public spaces improved, now is the time to have your say.

P.S. Share this with your Wolseley and West Broadway friends so they don't miss the deadline!

City Updates

Winnipeg Is Putting $1.96M Into 24 Community Centres

Some of Winnipeg's best memories start at a community centre.

Whether it's minor hockey, dance classes, community events, or simply meeting neighbours, these buildings play a big role in bringing people together.

That's why it's great to see the City of Winnipeg awarding $1.96 million in renovation funding to 24 community centres across the city.

The funding will help support facility repairs, safety improvements, upgrades, and renovation projects that allow these spaces to continue serving local families and neighbourhoods.

A few of the centres receiving funding include:

  • Garden City Community Centre

  • Fort Garry Community Centre

  • St. Norbert Community Centre

  • Whyte Ridge Community Centre

  • Vince Leah Community Centre, and 19 more on the full list

These are the places where communities gather, kids grow up, and lifelong friendships are made, so it's always good news when they're getting a little extra support.

If you want to see if your local centre made the list, click the link below to check out all 24 recipients!
