Manitoba To Remove Provincial Tax (PST) From All Grocery Store Food

Source: Downtown Winnipeg BIZ
A new change in Manitoba’s budget could make everyday grocery trips a little more affordable.
Right now, many basic grocery items like milk, produce, meat, and bread are already exempt from Provincial Tax (PST). But other items, especially snacks and ready-to-eat foods, are still taxed.
The budget change would remove PST from those items too, meaning all food sold in grocery stores would be tax-free.
If passed, the change could take effect as early as July 1.
Here’s what this means:
No PST on all grocery food items, including snacks, drinks, candy, and prepared foods
Applies to purchases made at grocery stores across Manitoba
Covers everyday grab-and-go items like salads, hot meals, and drinks
This update is meant to help lower the total cost of groceries and make it a bit easier for families to manage day-to-day expenses.
It’s a simple shift, but one that could make a difference at checkout each time you shop.

A message from Canlan Sports!

Build Hockey Skills Without the Pressure
Trying something new can be overwhelming for kids…
Especially hockey.
Fast pace.
Lots of players.
Not much time to figure things out.
So instead of enjoying it… they get a little discouraged.
That’s where Canlan Sports’ Skills & Drills program comes in.
It’s about helping kids learn, step by step, in a way that actually sticks.
They build real skills.
Then try them right away in small games.
Here’s what that looks like:
Focused sessions on skating, passing, shooting, and game play
A clear plan each week so you keep improving
Small group coaching so no one gets left behind
A mix of learning and playing so it stays fun
Reserve your spot, programs start April 4 and run with limited spots on weeknights and weekends, so it’s easy to fit into your family’s routine.
If you’ve been looking for a low-pressure way for your kids to build their skills, this is it.

City Updates
Another New Measles Exposure Site Reported In Winnipeg
It feels like we’ve been seeing new exposure sites almost every day lately.
And we know these updates can start to feel repetitive, but we want to keep you in the loop so you and your family can stay aware and take the right steps if needed.
The latest exposure was reported at:
Victoria Hospital emergency waiting room (2340 Pembina Hwy.)
March 20 from 5:10 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
If you were at this location during that time, it’s a good idea to keep track of how you’re feeling over the next couple of weeks and reach out to a healthcare provider if anything feels off.
Measles spreads easily, and early symptoms can include fever, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash.
The province continues to update exposure locations as new information comes in, so be sure to click the link below for the latest updates.
Pothole Repairs Underway Across Winnipeg

Source: City of Winnipeg
You know it’s spring in Winnipeg when the potholes start showing up again.
Crews are already out working to fix them, focusing first on main roads, bus routes, and busy streets where damage can affect the most drivers.
Here’s what to know:
Repairs right now are temporary, using cold mix due to the weather
Some spots may need more than one fix before permanent repairs begin
Crews will switch to longer-lasting repairs once it’s consistently warmer
These conditions are pretty common this time of year. Snow melts, water gets into cracks, then freezes again overnight, which breaks the pavement apart.
And while crews are working around the clock, they can’t be everywhere at once.
That’s where you can help.
If you’ve noticed a pothole near your home or along your daily route, you can click the link below to report it online, or call 311.
P.S. Share this with friends and family so more potholes can get reported and fixed sooner!

Winnipegger Wins $1M Lotto 6/49 Prize

Source: Lotto Spot
Winnipeg’s living up to its name with another big win this week.
A Winnipeger is now $1 million richer after winning a LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball Draw earlier this month.
Edward Wiebe says he plays almost every week, but wasn’t expecting anything like this when he checked his numbers. He described the moment as shocking and hard to put into words.
The winning ticket was purchased at Harris Meats and Groceries in Winnipeg.
Wiebe plans to use the money to take care of home repairs and help his kids, making the win feel even more meaningful.
It’s another reminder that sometimes, something small like a regular ticket can turn into a life-changing moment.
P.S. This isn’t sponsored by any means… just a pretty wild Winnipeg win.

Dinner Club Is Coming to Osborne Village
Making new friends as an adult is hard.
Not "hard" like learning French or running a marathon. Hard like… you just never get around to it.
You say "we should hang out" and then nobody follows up. And the idea of walking up to a stranger and starting a conversation? Forget it.
That's why we built Dinner Club.
You take a short quiz. We match you with a small group based on your interests. You all show up at a restaurant on the same night. And you leave with a few new friends.
Over 300 Winnipeggers have done it so far. And now we're taking it somewhere new.
For the first time ever, Dinner Club is coming to Osborne Village.
April 15. Small groups matched across local restaurants in the Village. But you won't know which one you're heading to until the morning of.
Here's what to expect:
A small group matched based on your interests
A local Osborne Village restaurant (revealed April 15)
Easy conversation with people also looking to meet someone new
New neighbourhood. New restaurants. Same good conversations.
