Manitoba Introduces Rules to Stop Predatory Grocery Pricing

Predatory pricing is when businesses use tactics that lead some people to pay more than others for the same item, often based on personal data like where you live or how you shop.

Manitoba is now taking steps to stop that practice across the province.

A new bill would ban retailers from using your personal data to raise prices just for you, whether you’re shopping online or in-store.

Here’s what this could mean for you:

  • No more personalized price increases based on your data

  • More consistent pricing, so everyone pays the same for the same item

The bill also helps support local grocery stores, making sure larger retailers can’t quietly use data to gain an unfair advantage.

At the end of the day, it’s about something simple. When you shop for everyday essentials, you should know the price you see is the price everyone else sees too.

Winnipeg Golfer Makes PGA Tour History

Source: PGA Tour

It’s always special seeing someone with Winnipeg roots make it onto a global stage.

And this week, it’s happening in a big way.

Sudarshan Yellamaraju, a 24 year old Canadian rookie who trained at the Winnipeg Golf Dome, just tied for fifth at The Players Championship, one of the biggest events in golf.

Here’s what makes his story stand out:

  • Finished nine under par, earning his first top 10 on the PGA Tour

  • Had a breakout 2025 season with multiple wins before earning his tour card

  • Largely self taught, learning by watching top players and putting in hours of practice with his family

For the local golf community, it's a proud moment. And for young athletes across the city, it's a reminder that big dreams can start in familiar places.

Manitoba Invests $300K To Support Families With Infants

Those first couple of years with a new baby can be just as beautiful as they are expensive.

The province is investing $300,000 into Harvest Manitoba's First Steps Infant Care program, which helps families access essential baby items at no cost.

Here's what the program provides:

  • Free diapers, formula, baby food, and cereal for infants under two

  • Support for up to 2,000 babies every month across Manitoba

  • Reaches 130 community agencies, including northern and remote communities

It's the kind of support that can take real pressure off families during those early days. If you or someone you know could use a hand, it's worth looking into.

City Updates

$91M Housing Project To Bring 260 New Homes

Source: NUMBER TEN ARCHITECTURAL GROUP

If you've ever passed by the former Kapyong Barracks site and wondered what's going up, here's your answer.

A $91 million investment from the federal government and Treaty One Nations is bringing new housing to southwest Winnipeg. The project, called Endayaan Omaa (meaning "Home is Here"), is part of a bigger vision for the area.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • 260 new homes are being built, with 109 units priced below market rent

  • Designed with students and families in mind

  • Construction will include a strong Indigenous workforce and local partnerships

With thousands more homes planned for the site in the years ahead, it's a meaningful step toward more housing and long-term community growth in Winnipeg.

New Personal Care Home Planned For Bridgwater

If you've got a parent or grandparent getting older, this one hits close to home.

The province just announced plans to build a new personal care home in Bridgwater. It'll follow a small house model, meaning it's designed to feel less like a facility and more like an actual home.

Here's what we know so far:

  • The home will focus on personalized, day to day care to help seniors age with dignity

  • Community consultations start this June, where residents and frontline staff can share input on the design and operations

It's part of a bigger push to add more long-term care beds across Manitoba. For families in southwest Winnipeg, it means a little more peace of mind when planning ahead.
