Winnipeg Adds Multiple Concrete Curbs to Reduce Speeding

Source: ConstructConnect
The City of Winnipeg is making some quick but meaningful changes to local roads by installing concrete traffic calming curbs in neighbourhoods where speeding is a real concern.
You might’ve already noticed them: bright yellow concrete blocks at busy corners or near crosswalks. They’re not permanent (yet), but they’re being tested in areas that really need safer streets.
Here’s what these curbs are designed to do:
Slow down drivers at intersections, especially where turning speeds are too fast
Improve visibility for people walking and biking
Create safer routes around schools, parks, and residential areas
And reduce the chance of collisions without needing major road work
Each site was selected based on feedback from the community, crash history, and city data. Some spots will also get art installations in partnership with Art City to help drivers pay more attention and make streets feel more welcoming.
The curbs are part of the city’s “quick build” program designed to test out safety solutions now, so that permanent changes can follow if they work.

Crews Are Flushing Water Mains Across Winnipeg

Source: City of Winnipeg
All summer long, City crews will be out on the streets doing one of those quiet, behind-the-scenes jobs that keep life running smoothly: flushing the water mains.
This week, they’re in Sage Creek. But over the next few months, they’ll be making their way through neighbourhoods all across Winnipeg.
It’s not the kind of work that gets a lot of attention, but it matters more than most of us realize:
Keeps our drinking water fresh by clearing out sediment
Cleans the inside of pipes and water lines
Makes sure hydrants and valves are working like they should
And helps maintain water pressure across neighbourhoods
Even if it’s just a few hours of work, it goes a long way toward keeping things running smoothly.
And this week, if you live in Sage Creek or know someone who does, the City will give a heads-up with a notice before flushing begins. You can also check exactly when your street’s scheduled using the live map.

New Dog Park Opens in Whyte Ridge

Source: Janice Lukes
The tails were wagging in Whyte Ridge this weekend as the neighbourhood officially opened a new permanent off-leash dog park. It's a big win for local pups, and the people who love them.
The new space sits just behind the Whyte Ridge Community Centre and gives dogs a fenced, year-round spot to run and play safely.
Here’s what it includes:
1.3 acres of fully fenced-in space behind 145 Cloverwood Drive
Seating areas, waste bins, a double-gated entry for safety and much more!
It’s the kind of simple space that brings the community together and lets dogs just be dogs.
And it's all thanks to the volunteer board, who've brought over $3 million worth of projects to life right here in Whyte Ridge. Including things like pickleball courts, spray pads, and new tree plantings around the neighbourhood.
So, if you're nearby or know someone with a furry friend who is, be sure to share this good news with them!

Recorded 943 points total in his NHL career, across 1,172 games
Known for showing up in big moments, with 45 playoff points over his career
Wheeler helped shape a team and a city that grew together through wins, losses, and everything in between.
Thanks for everything, Blake! Winnipeg won’t forget.

City Updates
Manitoba Parks Begin to Slowly Open
As wildfires continue across parts of the province, a few Manitoba parks are beginning to slowly reopen, while others remain closed a little longer for safety.
Here’s what to know right now:
Bakers Narrows reopens for seasonal campers on Friday, July 25
With nightly campsite bookings at Bakers Narrows resuming on Friday, Aug. 1
Wekusko Falls Provincial Park will stay closed until Wednesday, Aug. 7
And other northern parks still remain closed or evacuated, depending on wildfire activity
It’s all part of an ongoing effort to balance safety with summer recreation. The province is still asking campers to avoid evacuated areas and to be ready to leave on short notice if needed.
So, if you're planning a camping trip in the next few weeks, it’s worth double-checking which areas are open and what’s still off-limits.
