New Rules for Buying Blades in Manitoba
Manitoba’s rolling out new rules to make it tougher to buy things like machetes, long knives, and swords. Now, if you’re looking to buy one, you’ll need to show ID, stores have to keep them locked up, and anyone under 18 is out of luck. It’s all about making sure these weapons stay out of the wrong hands, helping to make our streets safer for everyone.
For families, this means feeling a bit more secure when kids are walking home from school or when you’re out enjoying the city. It’s a step toward lowering crime rates, making neighborhoods feel more comfortable and less on edge.
The goal is simple: make it harder for dangerous items to end up in the wrong hands. Small changes like this might not seem like much on their own, but they add up over time. A safer community, fewer threats, and a place where families can enjoy life without as much worry.

Local Community
$40,000 Raised for a Great Cause
In last Friday’s edition, we highlighted the upcoming Art from the Attic event at St. Vital Centre, and on Sunday, we got to see the power of community in action.
Thanks to the incredible support from shoppers, sponsors, and volunteers, over 2,600 pieces of art found new homes, raising more than $40,000 in just one day. The event made a real difference, with proceeds supporting grandmothers raising grandchildren in sub-Saharan Africa.
It was heartwarming to see the joy on shoppers' faces and the impact of this community effort. Events like this remind us just how much good can come from people coming together for a cause.

If you’ve been itching for some hockey action, now’s your chance to cheer on the team live. It’s all happening tonight, and the city’s ready to show up in full force. So grab a jersey, head down to the arena, and be part of the excitement as the Jets look to build on their early momentum. Go Jets, go!
New Senior Living in Charleswood Brings Big Changes
As reported by CTV News, Charleswood just got a new neighbor! The first building of the Seniors Residences of Oakdale is now open, bringing much-needed housing for seniors looking to stay in the area they love.
With affordable rental options and an active living centre right on site, it’s a space designed to keep seniors connected to their community. For longtime Charleswood residents, it means more options to downsize without leaving the neighborhood. And for the city, it’s a step toward creating more inclusive spaces for everyone.
City Updates
$500,000 Boost to Help Local Businesses Go Global
The Manitoba government is putting up $500,000 to help local businesses break into new markets beyond our borders. Here’s how this support breaks down:
Export Support: This program reimburses companies for costs when they participate in trade shows, missions, or conventions outside of Manitoba.
Buyers Coming to Us: Through the Incoming Buyer Program, local businesses can invite qualified international buyers to Manitoba. The program covers part of the costs, making it easier to form valuable partnerships right here at home.
Creating Jobs: The more products we sell abroad, the more opportunities for Manitobans to get involved in the export process.
It’s a big push to help local companies thrive on the global stage—turning our homegrown successes into stories that reach far beyond Manitoba’s borders.
Celebrating Winnipeg’s 150 Medal Recipients
Source: City of Winnipeg
Winnipeg’s honoring 150 residents with the Winnipeg 150 Medals for their efforts to make our city better. Each medal includes a tree planted in their name—growing roots in the city they’ve helped shape. Recognizing everyday folks like this encourages more people to step up and get involved. It’s a reminder that anyone can make a difference. As ceremonies happen citywide, let’s cheer for our community’s unsung heroes!
