If this intersection is part of your nightly drive, you’ll want to read this.
The city’s doing some major road work this weekend, and traffic is going to look a lot different after dark.
Here’s what to expect:
Friday, July 25 (6 p.m.-6 a.m.):
No left turns or through traffic. One lane open each way on Abinojii Mikanah.Saturday & Sunday, July 26–27 (4 p.m.-6 a.m.):
No traffic allowed across the intersection. Right turns only in all directions.Monday, July 28 (6 p.m.-6 a.m.):
Same as the weekend: no crossing, right turns only.
If all goes to plan, the intersection should be fully open again by early Tuesday morning, July 29.
So if this is part of your usual route, now’s a good time to pick a new one for the next few nights.
And maybe let a friend or neighbour know too as it’s the kind of heads-up that saves people from late-night detours.

IMPORTANT NEWS: For Winnipeg Digest Readers

It’s only July… but we’re already thinking about Christmas
We know, it’s early. But every year around the holidays, we see the same thing.
A parent balancing on a ladder in minus twenty. A grandparent trying to untangle old lights. A neighbour wanting to make their home festive, but unsure who to trust or where to start.
So this year, we’re getting ahead of it.
We’re thinking about launching a fully done-for-you Christmas lights service through Winnipeg Digest.
We know, Christmas lights? From a newsletter? Let me explain!
Our goal with this community has always been to make Winnipeg feel a little more fun, a little more connected, and a little easier to navigate.
And we think offering trusted local services is just another way to do that.
If this helps families feel proud of their homes, saves someone a risky climb, or brings more joy to a neighbourhood that needs it, then we’re all in.
This service would be:
All-inclusive: We bring the lights, plan the setup with you, and take care of the full install.
Worry-free: If anything stops working, we come fix it—no questions asked
Hands-off: When the holidays are over, we take everything down and store it for next year
And because this started with you, Digest readers will get early access, exclusive pricing, and a behind-the-scenes look as we build it out.
So before we dive in, we want to know what you think.
Do you know any homeowners who would be interested in using our service? (Including yourself) |

City Launches $2.5M Grant to Support Local Non-Profits
Applying for funding just got a whole lot easier for Winnipeg’s non-profits.
The City has rolled out a new grant program that puts everything in one place, making it simpler for local organizations to get support for the work they’re already doing in our neighbourhoods.
From youth rec programs, arts festivals, and even environmental efforts, this funding could go a long way.
One single application portal for all four funding streams
Grants available for projects in recreation, arts & culture, community well-being, and the environment
Up to $250,000 per year is available per organization
With a total of $2.5 million in funding available this round
Deadline to apply is September 15, 2025
It’s a great opportunity for the people already doing good work to keep going, and a chance to build a stronger, more connected city for everyone.
So if you know any non-profits or support any local groups, be sure to share the link below with them!
Shania Twain Helps Feed Thousands in Winnipeg’s North End

Source: Shania Twain Foundation
Every meal counts. And now, thanks to a generous boost from Shania Twain’s foundation, one Winnipeg kitchen can keep thousands more coming.
Community Helpers Unite, a North End non-profit feeding wildfire evacuees and families facing food insecurity, just got a $15,000 donation to help them grow their reach. The gift is helping them install a 40-foot refrigerated container to store more donated food and ingredients.
Here’s what that means:
Over 6,000 meals a day are going out to wildfire evacuees, with another 1,100 for locals
The extra cold storage means more food can be accepted and prepped
Once fire relief efforts wind down, the container will serve as a year-round food hub
It also helps reduce food waste and cut methane emissions from spoiled food
This donation is part of Shania’s larger commitment to help fund 375,000 meals across Canada. It’s a reminder that small acts of care, especially from those who can, can make a big difference for those who need it most.

$825K in Grants to Help Manitoba Be More Accessible
We don’t really notice how many barriers exist until you or someone you love has to face them every day. Whether it’s trying to read a sign, get through a door, or even just be heard, accessibility still isn’t a given for everyone in our province.
That’s why this latest round of grants from the Manitoba Accessibility Fund is such a big deal. The province is putting $825,000 into real projects that help people feel included, not left out.
34 organizations across Manitoba are receiving support this year
Grants will help fund tools, training, and resources to break down barriers
Projects range from print and digital improvements to staff education
One example? Training for Community Futures Manitoba staff in 16 rural and northern regions
This program has already helped fund over $3 million in accessibility projects since it began, and each one brings us a little closer to a province where everyone belongs.
It’s not just about ramps or regulations. It’s about dignity, independence, and making sure no one feels invisible.
