Winnipeg Kicks Off Road Construction Season

It’s that time of year again! No not summer season, construction season.

The city has officially kicked off its annual road construction season with a whopping $138.3 million to fix 150 lane kilometres of streets and add new bike lanes. Plus, there’s $7.2 million for brand-new active transportation infrastructure.

Mayor Scott Gillingham thanks everyone for their patience, promising smoother roads ahead. Highlights include $13 million for the St. Vital Bridge, updates to the Pembina Highway bridges over the La Salle River, and a new bridge on Creek Bend Road over the Seine River.

Major routes like Inkster Boulevard, Grant Avenue, and McGregor Street will also be under construction. Stay ahead of the game by checking the lane closures app and using Waze to find the best routes.

Get ready for a smoother, safer Winnipeg!

City Awards Renovation Grants to 11 Community Centres

Eleven community centers just hit the jackpot with $809,762 in renovation grants from the City’s Community Centre Renovation Grant Program (CCRGP).

“These grants make sure our community centers stay safe, welcoming, and vibrant,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham.

The winning centers are Assiniboia West, Bord-Aire, Bronx Park, Garden City, Linden Woods, Lord Roberts, Norquay, River Osborne, South Winnipeg – Waverley Site, St. Norbert, and Whyte Ridge.

With more renovations coming soon, the CCRGP has invested over $17.4 million since 2012, helping with repairs, upgrades, and safety improvements. With two funding rounds each year, Winnipeg’s community centers are getting better and brighter!

Foodfare Stays Strong: Let's Support Local!

Despite some tough times, the Portage Avenue Foodfare is standing strong and needs our support.

Owner Munther Zeid recently faced a string of incidents, including a shoplifter attack and car vandalism. But Munther remains positive: “We’re not letting a few bad apples ruin our business. The community has always supported us.”

Foodfare is a family-run business, and they’re determined to keep serving our community no matter what. Let’s rally behind them and show our support for a local gem that’s here to stay!

Premier Kinew's Vision for Manitoba

Premier Wab Kinew just announced a fantastic $1,500 tax credit to make buying a home more affordable, especially for folks in northern Manitoba and 80% of Winnipeg. And with interest rates possibly dropping soon, it’s the perfect time to think about getting your own place!

At a recent Manitoba Chambers of Commerce event, Kinew called on businesses to join the effort: “Let’s create more jobs and make Manitoba more attractive.”
