Happy Friday, Winnipeg!
Well… that was a short summer.
After finally getting a taste of patio weather this week, the forecast is taking us right back into the cold. A bit of a gut punch, honestly. But hey, we've lived here long enough to know the sun will be back soon enough.

Sinkhole Opens In Elmwood

East Kildonan & Elmwood Community Safety, News, & More Discussion Group
Something a bit unexpected happened in Elmwood this week.
A large sinkhole opened up on Washington Avenue between Roch and Watt after a water main break was reported.
It’s one of those situations that looks serious, but crews are already on it and working to get things back to normal.
Here’s what to know:
Water main break reported Wednesday morning
Sinkhole formed after soil under the road washed away
Repair work is ongoing as crews continue restoring the area
A few nearby homes were also temporarily without water, but the city has brought in a water tank for residents to use while repairs are ongoing.
While situations like this don’t happen often, it’s a good reminder of how quickly crews step in to fix things when they do.
And if you’re in the area, just give yourself a bit of extra time and follow any detours in place.
Local’s Guide to 11 Manitoba Parks You Need to Visit This Spring

Spring is here… and summer is coming up fast.
At least we hope so, even with a bit more snow still in the forecast.
So while we wait for the weather to fully make up its mind, this might be the perfect time to plan a few easy outings for when the sun actually sticks around.
That’s why we pulled together a list of Manitoba parks that are perfect for those first nice days outside.
Here are a few to start with:
Assiniboine Park – walking paths, gardens, and even indoor spots like The Leaf
FortWhyte Alive – trails, lakes, and a good chance you’ll spot bison or deer
Grand Beach – wide sandy beaches and quieter walks before summer crowds hit
Birds Hill Park – easy trails, biking, and a simple day trip just outside the city
and 7 more beautiful parks on the full list!
Whether it’s a quick walk, a full day trip, or just getting out for some fresh air, these are the kinds of spots you’ll keep coming back to.
P.S. Share this with your friends and family who might want to plan a park day!
City Updates
Manitoba Invests $1.1M To Local Make Communities Safer
A meaningful investment is being made to help communities feel a little safer across Manitoba.
The province is putting $1.1 million toward public safety initiatives in several municipalities, supporting local efforts to improve safety in places people use every day, like community centres, public buildings, and shared spaces.
This funding will go to:
Thompson
Dauphin
Selkirk
Steinbach
Morden
Winkler
The goal is to support practical upgrades like better lighting, security cameras, alarm systems, and repairs to public buildings, along with community programs that help prevent issues before they start.
It’s the kind of investment that often happens behind the scenes, but makes a real difference in how safe people feel in their own neighbourhoods.
And it’s a reminder that stronger communities are built not just through big changes, but through consistent support in the places people rely on every day.
