Why I Started This Newsletter (and What’s Next!)

Source: alexander_clicks on IG

Hey, it's Jas here! We just hit 10,000 subscribers in our little Winnipeg community, and I thought now would be the perfect time to say a quick hello. So, hi! 👋

I'm Jas, born in India, but Winnipeg’s been home since I was 10. I've seen our city through Jets white-out parties, food festivals, and everything in between. And, honestly? I’ve always felt like Winnipeg has so much to offer. But whenever I’d chat with friends, I kept hearing the same thing: “Winnipeg is boring.”

Five months ago, I decided to flip that script. I launched this newsletter to show that our city is anything but boring. And the support? It's been unreal! So, thank you. Seriously. We've got so much cool stuff lined up—merch, events, community initiatives—you name it.

If you ever see me around at events, come say hi! Nothing’s more motivating than meeting the folks who make this all possible. And hey, if you’ve got feedback, good or bad, don’t be shy. Those poll responses at the end of the newsletter mean the world to me. (And we read all of them!)

Oh, and if you or someone you know has a business that could use some local advertising, let's talk! That's what keeps this newsletter rolling.

But, thanks again for being part of this journey. Let’s keep making Winnipeg even better together!

P.S. Huge thanks to @alexander_clicks for this portrait! If you’re in need of headshots or any other type of photos, definitely check him out on Instagram.

What's Happening in Winnipeg?

SkipTheDishes Job Cuts—A Hit to Winnipeg

Sad news for Winnipeg: SkipTheDishes and Just Eat are cutting 800 jobs across Canada, including 100 from Skip.

With Skip’s roots deep in Winnipeg, this decision stings, impacting many in our community. It’s a tough reminder of the ripple effects that big business decisions can have on local lives. As we process this, let’s think about how we can support our neighbors who might be facing uncertain times—whether through job leads, networking, or simply lending an ear.

Winnipeg Brothers Shine at Canadian Transplant Games

As reported by City News, Winnipeg brothers Tanner and Teemu McLeod recently made a splash at the Canadian Transplant Games, bringing home three gold medals and two silver medals.

Tanner, who received a life-saving stem-cell transplant from his brother just three years ago, competed in various sports, showcasing not just physical strength but the incredible power of organ donation.

For our community, their victory is more than just medals—it’s a testament to resilience, brotherly love, and the life-changing impact of organ donation. These games highlight how organ donation can turn a family’s darkest moments into triumphs, reminding us all of the importance of becoming donors.

Small-Breed Dogs Rescued and Ready for Adoption

If you’re thinking about adopting a dog, now’s the time! The Winnipeg Humane Society has just opened up adoptions for some of the small-breed dogs rescued earlier this month. These pups have been through a lot, but they’re now ready for loving homes.

With the shelter at capacity, adopting one of these little survivors is a great way to make a difference for them—and for our community.

Flooding Forces Evacuation in Downtown Winnipeg

As reported by CBC News, residents of the Holiday Towers on Hargrave Street faced a major disruption this week as significant flooding forced an evacuation.

Hundreds of tenants had to leave their homes with little notice, and many are now searching for temporary accommodations. It’s a tough situation, but our community is stepping up, with local services offering support. If you can, consider helping out through donations or by checking in on affected friends and neighbors.
