Three Winnipeg Fugitives Added to Canada’s Most Wanted List

It’s not easy to talk about crime in our city, and it’s not something we like to dwell on. But sometimes staying aware is one of the simplest, most powerful things we can do to look out for each other.
This week, the BOLO Program (that’s short for Be On the Lookout) updated Canada’s Top 25 Most Wanted list, and three fugitives wanted in Winnipeg are now on it.
Here’s what you should know:
#4 on the list: Tresor Horimbere, wanted for first-degree murder after a fatal shooting at a Waverley Street soccer complex
#7 on the list: Chad Dandan, wanted for first-degree murder, kidnapping, and extortion, connected to a 2024 homicide
#17 on the list: Yusuf Abdulqadir Ali, wanted for attempted murder and firearm offences tied to a 2021 shooting on Furby Street
The program is offering rewards, up to $100,000, for information that leads to an arrest. And if you want to help but remain anonymous, Winnipeg’s 24/7 BOLO tip line at 431-334-9160 is open day and night.
Winnipeg Police say they’ve never stopped pursuing these cases. And now, with national eyes on the list, we all have a small part to play. If you recognize someone or hear something that could help, speak up. Sometimes, the right tip can bring justice and peace to families who’ve been waiting far too long.

Manitoba Offers $300 Rebates for Home Security Upgrades
If you’ve been thinking about upgrading your locks, installing a doorbell cam, or adding motion lights to your yard, now’s a good time to do it.
The province just reopened its Security Rebate Program to help make homes feel safer, without the big price tag. It’s one of those practical programs that doesn’t get much buzz, but really does help.
Here’s what’s covered:
$300 rebate for eligible home security purchases
Open to both tenants and homeowners
Applies to equipment like cameras, locks, alarms, motion detectors, even anti-graffiti paint
Covers anything installed after August 23, 2024
Applications accepted until the $2M fund runs out
Security upgrades aren’t always the most exciting purchase, but they can make a real difference when it comes to feeling comfortable at home.
Whether you rent or own, the application is easy, and the timing couldn’t be better. It’s one of those programs that quietly does a lot of good, helping more Manitobans feel secure where it matters most.

Jets Lock In Kyle Connor With $96M Extension

Source: Winnipeg Jets
It’s hard to imagine the Jets without Kyle Connor. And now, we won’t have to. After a career-best season and years of steady excellence, Connor’s sticking with Winnipeg for the long haul.
The Jets just signed the 28-year-old forward to an eight-year, $96 million contract extension. And honestly, it’s a deal that feels well-earned and long overdue.
He’s coming off a career-best season, putting up 97 points with 41 goals and 56 assists
Played all 82 games, staying healthy and consistent from start to finish
Led the team in playoff scoring with 17 points in 13 games
Named to the NHL First All-Star Team, one of the league’s top honours
Now signed through 2033, averaging $12M per season
Connor’s not just a scorer, he’s a steady presence who’s helped define this era of Jets hockey. Whether you’re a longtime fan or someone who watches with family on game nights, seeing him stay rooted in Winnipeg is a win all around.
City Updates
Manitoba Hydro Launches Provincewide Gas Meter Safety Inspections
Heads up if you see someone in a hi-vis vest near your front door: Manitoba Hydro has started a big province-wide inspection of natural gas meters and regulators.
It’s not a scam, and it’s not a regular meter reading either. Just a safety check to make sure everything’s working as it should.
Here’s what to know:
90,000 homes and businesses will be visited
Inspections will take place over the next 12 to 14 months
Inspectors may ask to see the meters inside your home
All staff will wear branded gear and carry ID
Visits will usually happen during daylight hours, but in rural areas, expect the occasional evening check.
If you ever feel unsure, give Manitoba Hydro a quick call to double-check. It’s just one more way they’re working behind the scenes to keep our homes safe and sound.
Manitoba Wildfire Leaders Honoured With Order of the Buffalo Hunt

Source: Manitoba Government
It’s hard to forget the smoke-filled skies this past summer, or the quiet fear we all shared watching the wildfires spread.
For many, it meant evacuations, lost homes, and loved ones we’ll never forget. But through it all, some people never stopped showing up: fighting fires, coordinating responses, and holding our province together.
This week, two of those leaders were honoured with one of Manitoba’s highest awards: the Order of the Buffalo Hunt.
Kristin Hayward, Assistant Deputy Minister for the Manitoba Wildfire Service
Christine Stevens, Assistant Deputy Minister for the Emergency Management Organization
Recognized for leading through one of Manitoba’s worst wildfire seasons in memory
Joined by countless emergency workers, firefighters, and volunteers who protected lives and homes
The award was presented at a ceremony at the Manitoba Legislature, led by Premier Wab Kinew.
The recognition is heartfelt and deeply earned. As these are the people who stayed calm when everything felt uncertain, who kept our families safe when the winds shifted, and who helped us start rebuilding when it was over.
