Trump Adds New 10% Tariff on Canada

A new 10% tariff has been added to Canadian goods after U.S. President Donald Trump reacted to a controversial Ontario government ad.

Here’s what happened:

  • Ontario launched a $75M ad campaign in the U.S. featuring Ronald Reagan, criticizing tariffs.

  • Trump called the ad “fraudulent” and demanded it be pulled immediately.

  • He announced an extra 10% tariff on top of what Canada already pays.

  • Ontario Premier Doug Ford confirmed the ad will be pulled by today, October 27, in hopes of restarting trade talks.

The move comes just weeks after progress seemed to be made between Prime Minister Mark Carney’s team and U.S. officials.

Trade discussions between the two countries have now been halted, with no meeting planned between Trump and Prime Minister Mark Carney during this week’s ASEAN summit.

Reminder: Yard Waste Collection Season Ending Soon

Source: City of Winnipeg

Just a friendly reminder, Winnipeg: If your yard’s still covered in leaves, this is your final reminder to get those bags out!

Winnipeg’s curbside yard waste collection is almost done for the season, and the city’s crews are making their last rounds before winter settles in.

Here’s what to know:

  • Area A: Final pickup runs October 27–31

  • Area B: Final pickup runs November 3–7

  • Use reusable containers (no lids), cardboard boxes, or paper yard waste bags for the yard waste

  • Halloween pumpkins are also accepted, just take off any candles or decorations

And if you miss pickup, you can still drop off your yard waste at any of the 4R Winnipeg Depots (Brady Rd., Pacific Ave., or Panet Rd.).

So use this as your reminder or a reminder to nudge your husband, that this is the last chance to clear up the yard before the snow hits!

If you’re unsure which area you’re in or when your pickup will be…

Winnipeg Blue Bombers Set Record with a Sold-Out Season

It’s not just the players making history this season, it’s the fans. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have officially sold out every single home game of 2025, hitting an incredible streak of 14 consecutive sell-outs since last August.

That’s over 450,000 fans filling Princess Auto Stadium, week after week, turning every game into a full-on celebration of blue and gold pride. From long-time season ticket holders to kids at their very first game, the energy has been pure Winnipeg through and through.

Next up, the Bombers face Montreal on November 1 in an away game, and if all goes well, we’ll see them right back home for the 112th Grey Cup on November 16.

Winnipeg Businesses Can Now Host Shelter Dogs

If your office could use a little more joy (and maybe a few tail wags), Winnipeg Animal Services has the perfect idea.

Their Business Buddies program lets local businesses “borrow” a shelter dog for a few hours or even a few days, to help give pups a break from shelter life while adding some fun to the workday.

Here’s how it works:

  • A designated employee from your business stops by 1057 Logan Avenue with proof of employment.

  • Staff will ask a few quick questions and match your team with a dog that fits your workplace vibe.

  • You can host the pup for an afternoon or up to a week, with overnight options available if your space allows it.

  • Winnipeg Animal Services provides all supplies, including food, toys, and leashes, so it’s completely hassle-free.

It’s a simple way to brighten your office, boost morale, and help dogs get noticed by the community, all while giving them a much-needed break from the shelter.

New Downtown Resource Corner Opens at Millennium Library

The Manitoba government has opened the Downtown Resource Corner inside the Millennium Library, creating a warm, accessible space for people to connect with the help they need.

The goal is simple: to make downtown Winnipeg a safer, more supportive place for everyone.

Here’s what it offers:

  • Mental health workers available to listen and provide support

  • Public health nursing for medical needs and referrals

  • Employment and Income Assistance staff to guide people through financial supports

  • And even housing and social navigation from the Downtown Community Safety Partnership team

The space is open about 20 hours a week, mostly in the afternoons, with one evening each week. It’s a community-first approach that focuses on care, safety, and connection, offering the right kind of help before problems grow bigger.

It’s another step toward making downtown a place where everyone can feel safe and supported.
