Winnipeg Launches $25M Housing Grant
The City has just launched the Housing Accelerator Fund Capital Grant Program, with a whopping $25 million up for grabs for local housing projects. This first phase is all about boosting downtown market projects, non-profit/affordable housing in the heart of the city, and affordable housing beyond downtown.
If you’re a developer or part of a non-profit housing agency, now’s your chance to bring your most creative and innovative ideas to life. The grant applications are open until July 12, 2024, and you’ll need to secure a building permit within a year of approval.
Mayor Scott Gillingham is all in, encouraging everyone to come forward with their best proposals to make a real impact on our downtown and ensure more Winnipeggers have access to safe, affordable homes.

What's Happening in Winnipeg?
Fines for Contaminated Trash?
Source: City of Winnipeg
The City of Winnipeg is considering fining residents for putting contaminated items in their trash and recycling bins. They’re asking for public feedback on this proposal, aiming to reduce waste in landfills.
Residents could face fines or educational notices if caught. Voice your opinion at open houses on June 13 and June 20, or through an online survey available until June 27.
$31K Funding Boost for Outdoor Rinks
Source: Windsorcc.ca
Great news for hockey and skating fans! The Windsor Community Centre received $31,000 from the city to help resurface its outdoor rinks. This funding will go towards a new tractor and snow pusher, ensuring better ice quality for all. The community centre has also raised funds to cover the total cost, making this a true community effort.
Osborne Village Starbucks Closes

Say goodbye to a local favorite – the Osborne Village Starbucks has closed its doors for good.
A notice on the front door thanked customers for being part of the store's community. The last day was May 31st, and the closure followed a series of incidents in the area. However, Starbucks expressed gratitude for the daily connections it has made with patrons over the years.
