2 New Tennis Courts Coming to South Winnipeg!
Exciting news, Winnipeg! Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park in Waverley West is getting an amazing upgrade. Starting this week, construction begins on two brand-new tennis courts, complete with pickleball lines.
But that’s not all! The park will also feature new landscaping, benches, and fencing, making it a perfect spot for everyone to enjoy.
This $293,500 project, funded by the City of Winnipeg and the Province of Manitoba, is expected to be completed by mid-August. So, grab your rackets and get ready to enjoy some outdoor fun soon!

Get Ready for the Cat Film Fest!
As reported by Katherine Dow of CTV News, the Winnipeg International Cat Film Festival is making a grand debut on June 25 at The Park Theatre, and it’s already sold out!
This fun-filled event will showcase 14 short films from around the world, including a special documentary about Winnipeg’s Cleocatra Café. Expect an evening of feline fun with snacks, cat-themed goodies, and a chance to vote for your favorite film. If you didn’t snag a ticket this year, keep an eye out for future events!
Bishop Grandin Gets Renamed
You might have seen some new signs while driving – Bishop Grandin Boulevard has officially been renamed Abinojii Mikanah, which means “The Children’s Way/Road” in Ojibwe. This change honors Indigenous residential and day school survivors and represents a step forward in the city’s commitment to reconciliation and respect for Indigenous communities.
African Nations Cup Kicks Off in Winnipeg

As reported by Arturo Chang of CBC News, the Manitoba African Cup of Nations has started with a bang at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex. Sixteen teams from different African communities, plus one representing Canada, are competing in this exciting tournament.
This event, which grows each year, is all about bringing communities together through a shared love of soccer. The finals will be held at Princess Auto Stadium on August 4, so mark your calendars for what promises to be an epic showdown!
