Construction Is Officially Underway On Winnipeg’s Newest Library

Source: Engage Winnipeg
A few months ago, Winnipeg announced a new library was coming to Garden City.
And now, it’s officially under construction.
The new Mike O'Shaughnessy Library is being built right at Garden City Shopping Centre, giving northwest Winnipeg its own neighbourhood branch.
Here’s what to know:
The new library will include children’s, teen, and general collection areas
Plans also include study space, program rooms, computers, printers, and public art
The new branch is expected to open in early 2027
Once it's done, it'll be Winnipeg Public Library's 21st branch, designed as a warm, accessible spot for families, students, and everyday community use.
If you live in the northwest end, this is one of those neighbourhood additions that makes everyday life a little easier.
P.S. Share this with anyone you know in northwest Winnipeg, they’ll want to see what’s coming.

Together with Eleven Hundred Dance!

A Fun Night Out for Elvis Fans in Winnipeg
There's something about Elvis that still pulls a crowd.
Maybe it's the music, maybe it's the memories, maybe it's just the fun of an excuse to dress up and do something a little different on a Friday night.
On June 13, Eleven Hundred Dance is hosting a special Elvis-themed night that brings together live music, a tribute performance, and easygoing social dancing all under one roof.
And here's the best part: you don't have to dance to come.
Plenty of folks just settle in for the music and the show. But if you're curious, they'll also be teaching simple ballroom, swing, and waltz throughout the night, so you can pick it up as you go.
Here's what to expect:
A live Elvis tribute performance
Beginner-friendly ballroom, swing, and waltz lessons mixed in
A relaxed, social atmosphere whether you come solo or with someone
Tickets are $12, $15, or $20, depending on how early you book

City Updates
Winnipeg Lowers Speed Limits On Bike Routes For The Summer
If you bike around the city, or know someone who does, this is a helpful one to know heading into summer.
Starting May 1st, Winnipeg is lowering speed limits on several popular seasonal bike routes to help make things safer for cyclists, walkers, and drivers sharing the road.
The lower limits will stay in place 24/7 through mid-October.
Here’s where speeds are changing:
Lyndale Drive, Wellington Crescent, and Churchill Drive will drop to 30 km/h
Kilkenny Drive and Kings Drive will drop to 40 km/h
Some turn restrictions will also be added later this season
The goal is to make these routes feel safer and more comfortable during peak cycling months, especially as more people get back outside and onto their bikes.
It’s a small change, but one that can make a real difference for people using these routes every day.
Yard Waste Pickup Starts Next Week In Winnipeg
That first real yard cleanup of the season is almost here.
Winnipeg’s curbside yard waste pickup begins the week of May 4 for Area A and the week of May 11 for Area B, making it easier to clear out leaves, branches, and everything winter left behind.
It’s one of the simplest ways to tidy up your yard while keeping compostable waste out of the landfill.
Here’s what you can put out:
Leaves, grass clippings, plants, and small branches
Use a reusable bin, cardboard box, or paper yard waste bag
Set it out by 7AM on your collection day
Yard waste is picked up every two weeks on the same day as your recycling and garbage.
It’s an easy seasonal reset, and one of those small things that helps keep both your yard and the city looking a little better heading into summer.
So if you’re getting started on your spring cleanup, click the link below to check when pickup starts in your area.
P.S. Share this to all your group chats so no one misses their pickup week!

Historic Captain Kennedy House Has Reopened with $1.4M in Upgrades

Source: Manitoba Historical Society
One of Manitoba’s longtime historic stops is officially welcoming visitors again.
After more than a decade closed, the Captain Kennedy House Tea Room and Museum in St. Andrews has reopened just in time for the summer.
The heritage site has been restored with $1.4 million in upgrades, bringing new life back to a space many Manitobans have visited over the years.
Tucked along River Road, this historic spot is part tea house, part museum, and one of those places that feels unlike anything else nearby.
The house honours Captain William Kennedy, an Arctic explorer, Métis community leader, and an important part of Manitoba’s early history.
And now, visitors can once again stop in for tea, explore the museum, and spend an afternoon in one of the province’s most charming heritage spaces.
So if you or someone you know is looking for something a little different to do this spring, click the link below and share this with them!
