South Winnipeg Is Getting a Major New Aquatic Centre

Source: City of Winnipeg
If you live in South Winnipeg, you've probably been hearing about the South Winnipeg Recreation Campus for years. It's been a long time coming, with years of planning, community input, and conversations about what the area needs.
Well, it's finally happening. The campus is being built at 15 Ruth Crossing on Bison Drive, east of Kenaston. Construction on Phase 1 is now underway, and the city is already moving forward with Phase 2.
Here's what Phase 1 includes:
Gymnasiums, multipurpose rooms, and a fitness area
An indoor walking and running track
A café, serving kitchen, and child care centre
An outdoor spray pad
And Phase 2 is where it gets really exciting. The city has officially started the design process for a brand new aquatic centre.
Here's what's planned:
A lap pool, leisure pool, and lazy river
Water slides, spray features, and diving boards
A whirlpool, steam room, and multi-purpose room for birthday parties and classes
A viewing area for families and more!
The city has set aside $1.5 million for early design work and public engagement.
A draft design is expected to be shared with residents in early 2027, and the aquatic centre is estimated to cost between $40 and $60 million.
For a part of the city that's been growing for years, this is the kind of place that brings a whole community together. And it's finally on the way.

55 Post Street by Paragon Living is now leasing in the heart of Whyte Ridge, with brand new townhomes designed around one thing: making your day-to-day life easier.
Being steps from Costco, restaurants, schools, and everyday errands means your whole day doesn't get eaten up by driving around.
Here's what makes these townhomes stand out:
FREE high-speed internet, in-suite laundry, and private outdoor space
Quartz countertops, walk-in closets, and modern finishes
Pet-friendly homes with quiet, well-built units
Minutes from Kenaston shops, restaurants, and daily essentials
Close to schools, parks, and major routes
It’s the kind of location where everything you need is just a short drive away.
And with only 52 units available, these townhomes won’t stay on the market for long.
So if you’ve been thinking about moving or upgrading your space, now’s the time to check the available units and book your tour.
Restaurant of the Week: VJ's Drive Inn

The Burger Spot on Main Street That's Been Here Since 1958
Some spots in Winnipeg don't need a fancy menu or a big dining room. They just need to do one thing really well. VJ's Drive Inn is one of those spots.
Sitting on Main Street since 1958, this tiny walk-up burger stand has been feeding Winnipeggers for almost 70 years.
The star of the menu is the Fatboy: a messy, chili-topped burger loaded with onions, pickles, mustard, and mayo on a soft white bun. It's the kind of burger you eat with both hands and zero regrets.
A few things that keep people coming back:
One of the best classic fatboys in the city
Fresh-cut fries that are crispy on the outside, soft in the middle
Thick milkshakes in flavours like blueberry and chocolate
4.5 stars with over 1,400 Google reviews
It's no-frills, it's messy, and it's one of the most loved burger joints in Winnipeg for a reason.
📍 170 Main St
🕒 Open daily, 10 AM – 9:30 PM

A Free Session to Help Winnipeggers Save on Transit
For a lot of Winnipeggers, the cost of getting around the city adds up fast. And not enough people know there's a program that can help.
A lot of people don't know this, but the city's WINNpass program offers a 50% discount on monthly transit passes and e-cash rides for individuals and households with low income.
It's a quiet program that not enough people know about, but it makes a real difference for the ones who do.
To help spread the word, the city's Transit Travel Training team is hosting a free Zoom session this Tuesday, April 7 from 12 to 1 p.m. to walk through everything you need to know:
What the WINNpass program is and who it's for
How to check if you're eligible
How to apply and load your pass
Registration is required, but it only takes a minute to sign up.
So whether it's for yourself, a family member, or a neighbour, this is worth passing along. You never know who it might help.

Sea Bears Bring Back Former MVP Teddy Allen

Source: TSN
If you were at Canada Life Centre the last time Teddy Allen suited up for the Sea Bears, you already know what's coming.
The Winnipeg Sea Bears have re-signed forward Teddy Allen ahead of the upcoming CEBL season, and honestly, this is a big one.
Allen, nicknamed "Buckets," was named league MVP back in 2023 during his first run with Winnipeg, and he's been putting up numbers everywhere he's gone since.
Here's what he brings back:
Career CEBL averages of 24.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game
First Team All-CEBL honours
Currently playing in the NBA G League, averaging 20 points per game
If you've seen him play, you get it. Summer basketball in Winnipeg is already one of the best nights out in the city, and having Teddy back makes it that much better.
The CEBL season is right around the corner, so if you've been looking for something fun to do with friends or family this summer, now's a good time to check out the schedule and grab some tickets for opening night.

City Updates
Winnipeg Lifts Winter Route Parking Ban
The City of Winnipeg has officially lifted the annual winter route parking ban.
So if you've been moving your car off designated streets between 2 and 7 a.m., you can finally stop worrying about that.
The ban came into effect back in early December, and during that time, the city handed out over 1,000 tickets and towed roughly 700 vehicles in just the first week alone.
No other winter parking bans are currently in place. And any future snow-related parking updates will be posted on the city's website.
It's April, so we'll take it. One more small sign that spring is actually here.
