Winnipeg Neighbours Go Viral For Cleaning Drains

Source: Tyler Crichton

Spring in Winnipeg usually means a lot of water on the roads.

But this week, instead of just complaining and waiting for the city, a group of neighbours decided to do something about it.

They grabbed whatever tools they had at home, posted in their neighbourhood group, and headed out together to start clearing drains.

And somehow, it turned into something way more than just clearing ice.

Here’s what happened:

  • A group of locals went out with ice picks, shovels, and even a pitchfork to break through frozen drains

  • They spent hours clearing streets, helping water flow and reduce flooding

  • After posting in a neighbourhood group, they were flooded with requests from others needing help

There was music playing, people laughing, and even dancing while they worked. What could’ve been a frustrating situation turned into something people actually wanted to be part of.

It’s a simple reminder that sometimes all it takes is a few people stepping up to bring a whole neighbourhood together, while making the day a little better for everyone around them.

City Updates

Province Invests $5M To Improve Meals In Personal Care Homes

Source: AARP

For many families, one of the biggest comforts is knowing their loved ones are being well cared for, right down to the meals they’re served each day.

That’s why the province is investing $5 million to improve food quality in personal care homes across Manitoba.

Here’s what this means:

  • Better quality meals, with more fresh and nutritious options

  • Expanded menu options that reflect comfort, culture, and familiarity

  • A better overall dining experience in personal care homes

For seniors, food is more than just nutrition. It’s part of daily routine, comfort, and connection.

This investment is one step toward making everyday life in care homes feel more thoughtful and supportive, while helping families feel more at ease about the care their loved ones are receiving.

P.S. Share this with friends or family who have loved ones in care homes so they’re aware of this update!

Manitoba Releases 2026 Budget

Manitoba’s 2026 budget has officially been announced, with a clear focus on everyday affordability and long term growth.

There’s a mix of immediate changes people will notice and bigger plans for the province's future.

  • Lower everyday costs, including removing Provincial Tax (PST) on grocery store food and added tax credits

  • More investment in health care, with funding for heart care, more staff, and shorter wait times

  • Support for families, like free transit for kids and expanded child care support

  • New jobs and growth, including investments tied to Churchill and skilled trades

This is a high-level snapshot of what the budget is focusing on.

Beyond this, there are long term plans in place, from building schools and care homes to improving highways and infrastructure.
