Winnipeg Police Arrest Suspect Tied to 22 Arsons and Break-Ins
If you’ve been reading the Digest for a while, you know we don’t usually focus on crime. But with so many local businesses and community spaces affected, we want to keep everyone updated.
On Tuesday evening, Winnipeg Police arrested a man they believe is behind 22 arsons, break-ins, and property damage incidents across the city since June. The list includes well-known spots like Commonwealth, Tipsy Cow, Johnny G’s, and two local MLA offices.
Here’s what we know:
22 incidents took place between June 11 and Nov. 18, including at La Roca, Tipsy Cow, Commonwealth, and Johnny G’s
Two local MLAs’ offices were targeted, along with the Winnipeg School Division
Police arrested a suspect on Magnus Avenue, just after a fire was set at a treatment centre
He now faces multiple charges, including arson with disregard for human life
There’s still a lot more work ahead, but this arrest is a meaningful step forward. It’s a reminder of the work our officers do behind the scenes to keep us safe.
And as a community, let’s be sure to do our part by keeping an eye out, reporting any suspicious activity, and continuing to support the local spots that make our city feel like home.
Poll of The Day: Help Us Improve Winnipeg Digest
We’re working on something special for the Winnipeg Digest, and we could really use your help. We’re adding real reader reviews to our website so people who haven’t joined yet can see what this little community is all about and why it matters.
Think of it like leaving us a Google review.
Why should someone in Winnipeg join the newsletter?
And what makes it worth opening every week?
After you vote in the poll, please leave a short comment sharing your honest thoughts. And if you’d be open to having your review featured on our site with a small thumbnail photo, just mention that in your message. Nothing formal, just a friendly Winnipeg face that lets others know it’s real.

Support Winnipeg Pets This Holiday Season

Source: Winnipeg Humane Society
Since April, the Winnipeg Humane Society has seen a 242% spike in families turning to their pet food bank for help.
To ease the load and give back this holiday season, they’re launching their first-ever Holiday Hamper Drive to support those struggling to afford pet care.
The goal is to fill 50 dog hampers and 50 cat hampers, each packed with food, treats, and essentials, so pets can stay with the people who love them.
Here’s how you can help:
Donate items like dog or cat food, toys, treats, litter, collars, leashes, brushes, nail clippers, poop bags, and wrapping paper
You can also shop online at WHS Pet Shop and include “hamper donation” in the checkout note
Or donate directly by selecting “Food Bank” on the WHS website
WHS is accepting in-person donations at 45 Hurst Way until December 3rd.
Even the smallest acts can make a big difference in keeping pets fed, families together, and help make the season a little brighter for someone who needs it.
If you’re interested in receiving a hamper, donating, or seeing how else you can support pets in our community this holiday season, click the link below!
Adam Lowry Signs Five More Years with the Jets

Source: Winnipeg Jets
If you’re a longtime Jets fan, this is one to celebrate. The team just locked in one of its core players, Adam Lowry, for another five years.
Lowry, who’s spent all 12 of his NHL seasons in Winnipeg, just signed a contract extension worth $5 million per year, starting next season. He’s been wearing the captain’s “C” since 2023 and is known for doing more than just scoring goals.
Last year, he posted a career-high 16 goals and even netted the double-overtime winner that pushed the Jets past the Blues in the playoffs.
He’s the kind of player you want in the room. Quiet strength, relentless on the ice, and a steady presence, especially with last year’s Presidents’ Trophy win.
With Lowry now signed long-term, and Kyle Connor’s deal locked in earlier this season, the Jets are holding on to what’s working. It’s a sign they’re not just chasing wins, they’re building something that feels solid, loyal, and built to last.
City Updates
Bonivital Pool Reopens After $9.8M Dollar Renovations

Source: City of Winnipeg
Bonivital Pool has officially reopened after 18 months of renovations. For anyone who grew up swimming here or brought their kids for weekend dips, the upgrades will be easy to spot and long overdue.
Here’s what’s new:
New universal and gendered changerooms that are fully accessible
Soon-to-open sauna added right onto the pool deck
Multi-purpose room to support more community programming
Upgrades to heating, lighting, and safety systems throughout the building
The total project cost came in just under $9.9 million, with funding from both the City and Province.
It’s part of a bigger plan to keep our pools safe, inclusive, and open for decades to come, especially for neighbourhoods like St. Boniface and St. Vital, where spaces like this have always been at the heart of community life.

Manitoba Adds More Paramedic Training Seats to Improve Emergency Care
When someone calls 911, timing is everything. That’s why the province is making moves to get more trained paramedics into communities, especially in northern and rural areas.
This fall, the Manitoba government expanded its paramedic training programs so more students can start sooner and stay in the province to build long-term careers in health care.
Here’s what’s changing:
14 new seats added to RRC Polytech’s Primary Care Paramedic program, bringing the total to 40 students.
The Advanced Care Paramedic program will now begin in the spring, allowing students to complete practicums sooner and enter the workforce faster.
16 new training seats added in Thompson, improving access for students in northern Manitoba.
The province says this expansion will help ease wait times and strengthen emergency medical services across the province. It’s also a great chance for Manitobans to train, work, and make a difference close to home.
So if you know someone considering a career in health care, be sure to share the link below with them!
