New Dangerous Form of Fentanyl Comes to Winnipeg
We hate to start today’s edition with some tough news, but as most of you know, we only talk about bad news when it affects our community. And this one matters—because it’s about keeping each other safe.
Winnipeg police are warning about a new form of fentanyl showing up in our city. It’s been pressed and colored to look like cookies, soaps, and candies—making it even more dangerous, especially for kids or anyone who might mistake it for something harmless.
This isn’t just a police issue. It’s a community one.
So here’s what we can do:
If you see something that doesn’t seem right—don’t touch it. Call the non-emergency police line at 204-986-6222 so trained professionals can handle it.
If you or someone you know uses substances, never use them alone and carry Naloxone. It can save a life.
Winnipeg, we’re a city that looks out for each other. So, let’s stay vigilant, spread the word, and keep our community safe.

City Updates
$1.85M to Grow Tourism Across Manitoba
Winnipeg, we know our province is something special. From our bustling downtown to the quiet beauty of the north, there’s so much to see. And now, thanks to $1.85 million in new federal funding, we’re getting even more reasons to explore.
One of the most exciting projects? An AI-powered northern lights tracker is in the works, thanks to $250,000 in funding for Churchill. Soon, visitors will get real-time updates on the best times to catch the aurora borealis, making northern Manitoba an even bigger bucket-list destination.
And that’s just the start. This funding is helping grow tourism all across the province:
Assiniboine Park Conservancy – $250,000 for winter activities like sledding, skating, and cross-country skiing.
Rosé Beach House – $350,000 to expand a retro-chic boutique hotel in Winnipeg Beach.
Exchange District Business Improvement Zone – $150,000 to grow the Lights on The Exchange public art festival.
Falcon Trails Resort – $99,999 to enhance recreational alpine and Nordic ski facilities in southeastern Manitoba.
MASS Investments – $152,875 to create a glamping experience in Pinawa.
National Indigenous Residential School Museum – $350,000 to expand and enhance the museum.
Pinawa Unplugged Ltd. – $118,685 to develop multi-day active tourism and improve accommodations in Pinawa.
Tourism Industry Association of Manitoba – $125,000 to support tourism operators with export readiness.
More reasons to stay, more reasons to visit, and more love for the places that make our province shine!
Assiniboine Park Prepares for Bigger Events
If you’ve ever spent a summer afternoon at Assiniboine Park, you know how special it is. And now, it’s about to get even better. As reported by Global News, starting June 28, the park is teaming up with Levy Canada, a global hospitality company that works with over 350 major venues. That means we could see bigger events, better food, and even more reasons to make a day of it.
This partnership opens the door for all kinds of exciting opportunities:
More major events—like last summer’s Great Outdoors Comedy Festival, but even bigger. Think music festivals, celebrity chef experiences, and more.
Upgraded food and dining—Levy is known for bringing top-tier food services to venues, so expect some serious improvements.
No job losses—current staff in food, retail, and visitor services are being offered similar roles under the new partnership.
City officials are calling this a huge win, and honestly, it’s exciting to see Assiniboine Park stepping up in such a big way. More events, better experiences, and another reason to love this place.

Winnipeg Skincare Brand Lands in the Oscars Gift Bags
We love seeing local businesses shine, and this one is making it all the way to Hollywood. As reported by CTV News, Mermaid Cove Cosmetics, a Winnipeg-based skincare brand founded by mother-son duo Ildikó and Béla Gyarmati, has been selected for the Oscars nominee gift bags this year.
What started as a personal journey—after Ildikó’s battle with breast cancer led her to create natural, toxin-free skincare—has grown into an internationally recognized brand. Inspired by the sea, their products feature ingredients like aloe and pearl, and now, some of Hollywood’s biggest stars will be taking them home.
Launched in 2019, the company took off during the pandemic, and now they’re hoping this Oscars moment will help them expand into retail stores and spas. Big dreams, big talent, and a little bit of Winnipeg making its way to the red carpet. Love to see it!
New Indigenous Food Hub Coming to Winnipeg
For many families, food security is a daily struggle. But as reported by The Winnipeg Free Press, a new project is set to make a real difference. Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre and Harvest Manitoba are transforming a former factory on Notre Dame Avenue into a grocery-style food bank and resource hub, designed to give families dignity and choice.
Instead of pre-packed hampers, families will be able to choose the food they need. The 30,000 sq. ft. space will also include a community drop-in area, cultural programs, laundry services, and office space to offer more than just food.
With food prices soaring, this is about long-term solutions—helping families not just get by, but build a path forward. Thanks to support from all levels of government and community partners, thousands of Winnipeggers will soon have a place to turn to for real support and connection.
