Winnipeg Restaurant Makes Canada’s Top Restaurant List

Crumb Queen/Andy’s Lunch is doing Winnipeg proud, folks! What started as a pop-up bakery during the pandemic has grown into one of the top new restaurants in the country. It’s the only Winnipeg spot on EnRoute Magazine’s Best New Restaurants of 2024 list!

This dual-concept café, tucked away in Osborne Village, is serving up some of the city’s most drool-worthy crullers and Italian sandwiches. With long lines and daily sellouts, it’s clear Winnipeggers know a good thing when they taste it.

You know how people always say Winnipeg is secretly the food capital of Canada? Well, this nomination is proof we’re living up to that rep. We’ve got talent here that’s being recognized across the country. So, if you haven’t yet, head to Crumb Queen/Andy’s Lunch and see why everyone from here to Toronto can’t stop talking about it.

Goldeyes in the Finals!

As you know, we’ve been keeping you updated on the Goldeyes in almost every edition lately—and for good reason! They just won a big Game 3 against the Fargo RedHawks on Thursday, sending them to the championship series for the first time since 2017.

Now, they’re just a few wins away from bringing home their fifth championship title!

Unfortunately, we lost the first two games of the finals, but with the last three games being held in Winnipeg, we need you there to cheer them on! Game 3 is tomorrow at Blue Cross Park, so grab your friends and come out to support the team! You can also check how yesterday’s game went with the button below. Go Goldeyes!

Restaurant of the Week: Colosseo

Source: Tourism Winnipeg

This week’s restaurant pick is hands-down my favorite Italian spot in the city—Colosseo Ristorante Italiano.

Now, I haven’t been around since 1973, but ever since I can remember, this place has been a go-to for the most authentic Italian food in Winnipeg!

Located in the heart of Little Italy on Corydon Avenue, Colosseo serves up classic and modern Italian dishes that never disappoint. Whether you're in the mood for pasta, seafood, or a gourmet pizza, the portions are generous, and the service is always top-notch.

They even have gluten-free options, so there's something for everyone. And if you're a wine lover, they’ve got you covered with plenty of options to pair perfectly with your meal.

If you haven’t been, go grab a seat on their patio before the summer ends, and get ready for one of the best Italian dining experiences in the city. Trust me, you’ll leave with a happy heart and a full stomach!

Local Businesses

Carpooling Just Got Easier in Manitoba

As reported by CTV News, the GoManitoba app is back with a fresh new look! If you’re looking to make your commute greener, this app connects you with carpooling, biking, walking, and transit options. Originally launched in 2017, the app struggled during the pandemic, but it’s back and better than ever with an easier-to-use interface. Whether you’re in Winnipeg or looking to connect with people outside the city, GoManitoba is here to make eco-friendly commuting simple. Plus, businesses can even build their own commuter networks—making it easier for everyone to cut down on solo car trips.

Winnipeg Business at the Emmys!

As reported by Global News, HayMad & Co., a small Winnipeg business, had an incredible time at the Emmys this past weekend!

Amber Nemeth, the owner, was invited to showcase her “Be Kind” hoodies and tote bags in the gifting suite for celebs. That’s right—our local goods were handed out to some of the biggest names in Hollywood. We just want to congratulate this amazing business for putting Winnipeg on such a global stage. And if you're in the market for some local goodies, be sure to check them out and support this hometown star!

Celebrating 100 Years of Community with the Kinsmen Club

As reported by CTV News, the Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg is celebrating a huge milestone—100 years of serving the community. From fundraising for the city's first Children’s Hospital to their support for the Bruce Oake Centre, this club has made an impact on countless lives across Manitoba.

They’re even the folks behind the Red River Ex! To celebrate, the Kinsmen are hosting a special gala on September 21st at the RBC Convention Centre. If you’ve ever wanted to get involved in helping local charities or just want to learn more, this is the perfect chance to support a group that’s been changing lives for a century.

Winnipeg Police Service Stretched Thin

As reported by CBC News, the Winnipeg Police Service is facing a growing challenge. With a record-high number of calls waiting for dispatch and a shortage of officers, the acting police chief says the service needs 78 more officers to keep up.

The rise in crime, protests, and daily calls is putting a lot of strain on the force, leading to overtime costs skyrocketing. As the city grows, the demand for policing is only increasing. It’s a tough situation for our community, but conversations are underway to address the issue and find solutions to make Winnipeg safer for everyone. So, if you're on the edge of joining the force, now might be the time—our city could really use your help!

Breaking Ground on the Anne Oake Recovery Centre

Source: Bruce Oake recovery Centre

As reported by CTV News, construction has officially begun on the Anne Oake Recovery Centre, a new facility dedicated to helping women battling addiction. Located near Victoria General Hospital, this centre is a huge win for the community, offering a space where women can receive treatment while keeping their kids by their side—a game-changer in the recovery process.

This is a big step forward in supporting families and providing hope for women seeking a better future. It’s a great addition to the city, creating more accessible resources for those in need of help.

Question for you:

We’ve been asked multiple times to create a monthly digital calendar that includes all the best events around Winnipeg, so you can plan your month in advance. Honestly, we’d love to make it happen, but with our small team and limited budget, it’s been tough to pull off. That’s why we’re considering offering it as part of a monthly membership.

The goal? To create a Costco card but for all of Winnipeg! It would start with the calendar, and over time, we’d look to add even more value, including:

  • Discounts from multiple local businesses (think 10-15% off)

  • Exclusive event access

  • Group meet-ups

  • Run clubs

  • And more as we grow!

We really value your input, and we read every single comment you leave in the poll below—seriously, thank you for all the feedback and support so far!

What's the max monthly price you'd pay?

We won’t develop this if there’s not enough demand, so please let us know!

CHEERS!
