Source: Folklorama

Folklorama is back from August 3 to 16, with 43 cultural pavilions spread across the city.

For so many Winnipeggers, this festival isn’t just an event, it’s a tradition. It’s where families pass down dances, recipes, and stories.

It’s where kids try food from a culture they’ve never experienced, and neighbours come together to celebrate what makes each community unique. Year after year, it reminds us how much beauty there is in sharing where we come from.

Here's what you need to know:

  • This year introduces two new pavilions: Modern Chinese and Mabuhay Philippine

  • Some are marking big milestones: Scotland (50 years), Tamil (25), and Celtic Ireland (20)

  • Every pavilion offers live performances, cultural activities, and food and drinks available for purchase

  • Tickets are $7.50 for adults, and free for kids under 12

  • VIP and accessible tour options are also available if you want to experience more in one night

There’s no better way to connect, learn, and celebrate the cultures that make Winnipeg feel like home.

So if you want to experience all the different cultures, food, and traditions in our city, click the link below to check out all 43 pavilions and decide which ones you want to go to!

Community Digest

Winnipeg’s Most Wanted List for July

No one likes thinking about crime. But sometimes, looking out for your loved ones means staying informed, even when the news feels heavy.

Winnipeg Crime Stoppers has shared its latest list of individuals with active warrants. Some are tied to serious offences, and police are asking for the public’s help in locating them.

This isn’t about fear. This is about being aware for the safety of your kids, your family, and your community.

  • The list includes individuals with Canada-wide warrants

  • Crime Stoppers encourages anyone with tips to call or report anonymously

  • It’s a good reminder to check in and stay alert, especially in the summer when more folks are out and about

We all want to live in a city where people feel safe, where kids can play outside and neighbours look out for one another. And part of protecting that is knowing what’s going on around us, so we can stay aware, stay connected, and keep our communities strong.

New Spray Pad Opens at Turtle Island Neighbourhood Centre

There’s something really heartwarming about a space built just for joy. That’s what the new spray pad at 510 King Street is all about: a place where kids can laugh and splash around, and families can spend time together without having to leave the neighbourhood.

Turtle Island Neighbourhood Centre just opened a brand-new, fully accessible spray pad, and it’s already becoming a favourite summer spot for the community.

Here’s what’s new:

  • The spray pad is fully accessible, so all kids can join in

  • New benches, picnic tables, and shaded areas make it easy to stay a while

  • Paved pathways, a bike rack, and fresh landscaping round out the upgrades

  • And it’s all funded through all levels of government to support more accessible, welcoming spaces

It’s more than just a place to play. It’s a space where memories are made, right in the heart of the community.

City Updates

Windsor Park Golf Course Turns 100!

Source: City of Winnipeg

Windsor Park Golf Course has been part of Winnipeg’s landscape for a full century. Even if you’ve never set foot on the green, chances are someone you know has. It’s one of those places that’s quietly woven into the rhythm of the city, where early mornings, slow afternoons, and winter trails have brought people together year after year.

This week, the course is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a deal that tips its hat to the past.

Here’s what to know:

  • Rounds are just $19.25 until August 4, as a nod to the course’s opening year.

  • The course has been around since 1925, and is marking a full century this summer

So, whether you’ve been coming here for decades or have never swung a club in your life, this place holds a quiet kind of history. A reminder that good things last when they’re shared.

Wildfire Risk Remains High Across Manitoba This Weekend

Before heading out of the city for a weekend of camping, visiting family, or just breathing in some fresh air, it’s worth checking in on wildfire updates.

This year’s wildfire season is already Manitoba’s worst in decades, and with dry conditions and strong winds sticking around, things can change fast.

If you’ve got weekend plans, here’s what to keep in mind:

  • Manitoba is still under a provincial state of emergency until at least August 8

  • 127 wildfires are active right now, with some over 300,000 hectares in size

  • Burn permits are cancelled and travel is restricted in fire zones

  • Evacuees can access shelter and support at Winnipeg’s RBC Convention Centre and Leila Soccer Complex

Staying safe doesn’t mean staying home, but it does mean being mindful of where you're going and what’s happening nearby. Before you head out, be sure to check air quality, park closures, and road conditions. A quick look now can make all the difference later.

Want to Volunteer at Winnipeg’s Biggest Summer Market?

The Summer of Locals markets have been a huge success, and that’s because of you.

Every market so far has brought out thousands of people and dozens of volunteers from the Digest community, helping us create something really special. And now, we’re getting ready for our second last market of the summer on August 9–10 at Outlet Collection Mall.

If you’ve ever wanted to get more involved or see what goes on behind the scenes, we’d love to have you join us.

Even just 2 hours of your time goes a long way.

We need help with:

  • Set up and tear down

  • Welcoming guests

  • Answering small questions

  • And making sure folks know about the free kids activities, local vendors, and food trucks

It’s a fun, low-pressure way to give back and meet some lovely people in your city.

We hope to see you there. And if you’re bringing the family to shop and hang out, make sure to come say hi.
