One of Winnipeg's Hottest Weekends Yet

Source: Access Winnipeg

If the last couple of days already had you reaching for a fan, get ready, because it's only going to get more intense.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says the hottest weather is still on the way, with a prolonged stretch of heat settling over Winnipeg and much of southern Manitoba starting today, July 10th.

Here's what to expect:

  • Temperatures climbing into the mid and high 30s by the end of the weekend

  • Humidex values could reach 45 on Sunday, making it feel even hotter

  • Heat warnings may be issued as conditions develop over the next few days

And it won't be over by Monday. Things cool off a little after the weekend, but we're staying in the high 20s to low 30s well into the days ahead.

A few simple reminders that go a long way:

  • Drink water often, even before you feel thirsty

  • Take breaks in the shade, wear light clothing, and save outdoor plans for the cooler hours

  • Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle or direct sun

Small stuff, but it goes a long way. And hopefully the heat doesn't get in the way of your weekend plans. Whether you're heading to the lake, a festival, or just running errands around town, the city has cooling centres open if you need a break from the heat.

The One Appointment You Keep Skipping

It's funny how easy it is to make time for everyone else.

The kids need a ride. Work gets busy. The weekend fills up before you've even had a chance to think about yourselves.

Somewhere along the way, "we should book that" turns into "maybe next month."

This July, Artistly is giving you a reason to finally make it happen. Together.

Book any colour service, and your partner receives 50% off all men's services, making it the perfect excuse for both of you to walk out feeling like the best version of yourselves.

Here's what makes Artistly worth the visit:

  • Beautiful cuts, colours, highlights, and styling, tailored to the look you've been picturing

  • Men's cuts, fades, beard trims, facials, and brow cleanups, all in a space that takes grooming seriously

  • A salon and spa under one roof, where you can actually slow down instead of rushing through another appointment

Tucked away on St. Anne's Road, Artistly has quietly built a loyal following, with more than 250 Google reviews and a 4.8-star rating from clients who keep coming back.

Only 25 couples can take advantage of this offer. Once those appointments are booked, the promotion is gone, and there's no guarantee when it'll be back again.

City Updates

Winnipeg's Mosquito Numbers Are Dropping

If you were out in the yard last week swatting like crazy, we felt it too. But there's finally some good news. The city's average mosquito trap count has dropped from 84 last Friday all the way down to 29.

Even with the numbers down, crews are still out keeping an eye on things.

Here's what to know:

  • Crews are working from 9:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., weather permitting

  • Fogging won't happen if temperatures drop below 13°C or winds are too strong

  • Spraying only happens once trap counts pass the city's set thresholds

It's a promising sign, but honestly, with all the recent rain and more warm weather coming, things can turn around fast. So the city keeps checking those trap counts every single day before deciding where to fog next.

Wondering if your neighbourhood is up soon? The city updates its spraying schedule regularly as new spots get added.

Six Manitoba Companies Receive $10.2 Million for AI

Whether you love AI or you're still figuring out what all the hype is about, there's no denying it's becoming a bigger part of how businesses run. And six Manitoba companies just got the backing to stay ahead of it.

The Government of Canada is investing more than $10.2 million to help local companies develop AI, grow their businesses, and get their technology in front of more customers.

Here's where the funding is going:

  • Taiv Inc. receives $5 million

  • ExpensePoint receives $2.3 million

  • mode40 receives $800,000

  • and 3 more businesses are also receiving financing

But this isn't just about better technology. The funding is expected to create more than 170 jobs and support 35 Manitoba businesses, in everything from agriculture and construction to manufacturing and advertising.

Pretty exciting to see this kind of investment landing right here at home

Be the Reason a Kid Doesn't Have to Wait

Picture the moment a mom has waited years for.

Her little girl, who's had to work so hard just to speak, finally looks up and says "mama." The room goes quiet. Then everyone's in tears.

For some kids in Manitoba, moments like that don't just happen. They take therapy, the right equipment, and a spot in a program built for them. And too often, families are left waiting for help that can't come soon enough.

That's where Variety comes in. A few dollars a month from you is what moves a child off a waitlist and into the room where it happens:

  • $10 a month puts a child in therapy during the years that matter most.

  • $20 a month covers the equipment nothing else will pay for.

  • $35 a month gets a kid into camps and sports built just for them.

Start a monthly gift of $20 or more, and Variety sends you a $100 Keg gift card to say thanks.

Somewhere this summer, a kid is going to find their voice or make their very first friend. You could be the reason.
