Winnipeg's Rail Tracks Could Be Moving

After decades of talk, the idea of moving Winnipeg’s rail lines is finally gaining traction. The spotlight is on the stretch of land along Logan Avenue, currently occupied by CPKC Railway, right in the heart of the city.

With Lloyd Axworthy leading the study, the province is investing $200,000 into figuring out if relocating the tracks makes sense. The study will take around two years, and if it moves forward, it could open up space for projects like The Forks—remember, where The Forks sits today used to be railway tracks too!

We’re talking new housing, parks, and community spaces. It’s not just about dodging train delays—this could completely reshape Winnipeg’s future.

Winnipeg Teenager Shines on Global Stage

As reported by CTV News, Lisa Wei, a Grade 11 student from Vincent Massey Collegiate, just finished second in the world at the International Brain Bee. Competing against 3,000 students from 40 countries, she’s shown that Winnipeg is a hub for young talent.

It’s a proud moment for the city and for parents watching their kids dive into science. The International Brain Bee tests knowledge about the brain, from basic functions to emotions and memory. Lisa spent her summer months studying for this tough competition, and it paid off big time. Her success is a reminder that with dedication, our local students can compete on the world stage. If your kid’s got a passion for science, this might be the nudge they need to explore what’s out there!

Only Two Weekends Left for Witchy Wonderland!

Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this Halloween? Witchy Wonderland is where it’s at. And heads up—it’s only around for two more weekends. We’re talking kids' rides, a not-so-haunted hayride, and a giant inflatable corn maze that’ll have everyone in the family grinning ear to ear.

Oh, and the best part? The little ones get free candy and face painting to turn them into their favorite spooky characters. Not bad, right?

It’s all happening at Red River Exhibition Park until October 27. So, grab the kiddos, throw on those costumes, and go make some Halloween memories. Tickets are going fast—get yours before they’re gone!

Charity of the Week:

Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre

With Halloween around the corner, this is the perfect way to contribute to our community!

As reported by CTV News, the PWRC is collecting leftover pumpkin and squash seeds to help rehabilitate small animals like squirrels and woodchucks, teaching them how to crack open shells without upsetting their stomachs.

It’s simple to help—just clean and bake the seeds without seasoning, and drop them off at Pembina Veterinary Hospital (400 Pembina Hwy). PWRC will be accepting donations until mid-November, making it a great way to give back while getting into the Halloween spirit!

Local Community

New Playground at Pacific Junction Heritage Park

A new playground just opened at Pacific Junction Heritage Park (685 Cathcart St.), and it's already making a big impact on the community. With new accessible ramps, swings, a play structure, and even an outdoor classroom, it's a space for everyone to enjoy.

The $431,000 project is more than just a place for kids to play—it’s a spot where families can gather, stay active, and create lasting memories together. Whether it's kids on the swings or families having a picnic, this park is a great addition to the neighborhood. It’s the kind of space that brings people together and keeps the community strong. We hope to get more spaces like these in our city!

Winnipeg Airport Runway Reopens: What it Means for Your Neighborhood

As reported by CTV News, After months of construction, Winnipeg Richardson International Airport’s longest runway is back in action.

For neighborhoods like St. James, Charleswood, and Tuxedo, this means air traffic is returning to its regular flow. On the flip side, areas like Fort Garry and River Heights might notice fewer planes overhead.

The construction wrapped up after several months of work, which included upgrades to paving, drainage, and electrical systems. Overall, it’s all about improving the airport’s functionality and keeping things running smoothly for everyone in the city.
