Winnipegger Breaks World Record!
Hey Winnipeggers!
I know we recently stopped doing the Home of the Week, and a lot of you mentioned how much you loved it. So, what would you think if we started a whole new newsletter featuring the best homes in Winnipeg? We’d include listings in all price ranges, giving everyone something to browse.
If you’re anything like me, you probably find yourself checking out real estate listings from time to time—it’s a fun break from doomscrolling, right? We’d keep this as a separate newsletter to keep all the local happenings here. Let me know what you think—if enough of you are on board, we’ll roll it out, and if not, we’ll just pretend this never happened. After all, this newsletter is for the people, by the people!

Winnipegger Breaks World Record!
As reported by CTV News, Jason Connor, a pro mountain biker and proud Winnipegger, just crushed his own world record. Riding a jaw-dropping 50.60 kilometers without pedaling at Sage Creek’s pump track!
But it’s not just about the record. Jason’s aiming to get more pump tracks built around Winnipeg, so kids (and let’s be honest, adults too) can have a blast riding and practicing their skills.
With biking getting more popular here, Connor’s hoping this world record moment sparks a bigger conversation about building more tracks. Because who doesn’t want more spots to ride and stay active? Let’s see where this momentum takes us!
Mandatory Heated Buses Coming November 1
Starting November 1, Manitoba is stepping up for bus riders with a new rule that requires all buses to have working heaters. Yep, no more shivering on those long trips in the freezing cold! Whether you're heading out for work, school, or any appointments, the government wants to make sure you're comfortable, especially during those cold Manitoba winters.
This change is huge for folks in northern communities who sometimes travel hundreds of kilometers. The new regulations will also make bus companies check heating systems before every trip, adding peace of mind that you’ll be warm.
It’s a simple fix, but it’s one that’ll make a big difference!

The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba
The Ice Crystal Gala is back on November 9 at the RBC Convention Centre, and it’s one of the most exciting, family-friendly events of the year. Last year, thanks to your generous support, the gala raised over $830,000 to #GiveBetterFutures for kids who need surgical care at HSC Children’s Hospital.
With great food, fun activities for the kids, and more, this event has something for everyone. You can make a real difference by attending, sponsoring, or even volunteering. It’s the perfect way to give back while enjoying an unforgettable evening with your family!

Jets Stay Undefeated!
Wow, what a start to the season! The Winnipeg Jets are on fire, pulling off their fifth straight win with a 6-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The team showed serious resilience after being down 2-0 early on, rallying back with a wave of goals. With star performances across the board and Comrie making some clutch saves, the Jets are giving fans a lot to cheer about. Let’s keep that winning streak going, Winnipeg!
Six U of W Students Win Research Manitoba Awards
Source: UWinnipeg
Six UWinnipeg students just received a major boost with Research Manitoba's Trainee Awards! This recognition helps them dive deeper into their important research while highlighting Manitoba’s role in shaping the future of science. Here’s a quick look at their projects:
Tia Bartel-Ens: Studying carbon changes in boreal regions.
Indeera Hetti Arachchige: Researching solutions to reduce phosphorus runoff in agricultural soils.
Camille Forbes: Focusing on Indigenous inclusion in climate change adaptation within northern Manitoba's forestry sector.
Ranjini Mukherjee: Exploring toxic pollutants in Canadian polar bears.
Madison Chisholm: Enhancing the accuracy of MRI technology.
Jayson Gislason: Investigating land acknowledgements as tools for reconciliation.

City Updates!
Vaccine Clinics to Reach Underserved Communities
As winter and flu season approaches, the WRHA is partnering with Thrive Community Support Circle to make vaccines more accessible for those in need. As reported by CTV News, They’re putting on weekly clinics that will focus on those with limited access—like seniors, shelter users, and new moms.
With the flu circulating, these vaccines can help protect our most vulnerable. This is a reminder that taking care of each other is key to keeping our community safe and healthy!
Manitoba Brings Back 1:1 Apprenticeship Ratio
Great news for Manitoba’s tradespeople! The government is restoring the 1:1 apprentice-to-journeyperson ratio, which means:
Better supervision: More hands-on guidance ensures safer training for apprentices.
Higher quality training: Apprentices can develop their skills under close supervision.
And more opportunities for jobs: It’s part of the province’s push to create 10,000 skilled labor positions.
