Winnipeggers Make History at Paralympics
Source: Canadian Paralympic Committee
Leanne Taylor just brought home a bronze medal in the Paralympic triathlon, making her the first Canadian woman to do so. And that’s not all—this is the second medal for Winnipeg this year, following our earlier win in taekwondo at the Paris Olympics.
What does this mean for our city? It’s not just about the medals; it’s about inspiring the next generation of athletes. With these victories, there’s hope that we’ll see more funding for sports programs, encouraging our younger athletes to get involved early. More medals could mean more grants, better facilities, and a stronger sports community in Winnipeg. Let’s keep this momentum going and build a future where even more Winnipeggers can shine on the world stage!

Sikh Celebration in Winnipeg
Source: Winnipeg Nagar Kirtan FB
I had the chance to check out the annual Sikh celebration, Nagar Kirtan, last weekend, and it was an absolute blast! The streets of downtown were alive with vibrant colors, rich traditions, and some seriously good food from all the different stalls. (For free!)
It was incredible to see how the Sikh community has become such an integral part of Winnipeg, bringing people together from all walks of life to celebrate and learn about their culture. The sense of community and unity was truly something special. I’m kicking myself for not including it in last week’s events, but you can bet it’ll be on our radar for next year. Trust me, this is one event you won’t want to miss—it’s a celebration of culture, tradition, and togetherness that everyone in Winnipeg should experience!
Back to School Excitement
September’s here, and that means it’s back to school time! Whether it’s your kid’s first day or your teenager’s first step into university life, it’s an exciting time for families across Winnipeg. Big shoutout to all the students kicking off new adventures this fall. And don’t worry, we’ll be covering university events too—whether you’re a student or a parent keeping up with sports schedules, we’ve got you covered!
School Zones Are Back
With school back in session, remember that school zones are active again. Speed limits drop to 30 km/h around schools, so let’s all keep our streets safe for the kiddos heading to class. Speeding in these zones can get you a hefty ticket, so let’s drive carefully and look out for each other.

Bombers’ Labour Day Classic Win
Source: Blue Bombers X
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers just gave us a game to remember, pulling off a heart-stopping win against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Labour Day Classic. This one had it all—drama, big plays, and a finish that had us all on the edge of our seats.
The Bombers showed their grit, holding on in the final seconds to secure the victory with a score of 35-33. This win showed everyone exactly why we’re sitting at the top of the West. It’s been one great season for us fans so far—knock on wood!
