Year-Round Farmers' Market in Winnipeg
Hey Winnipeggers!
Thanks for the hundreds of survey responses in the last edition! We read them all and really appreciate your feedback.
Here’s the plan: we’ll be posting all university events (including sports), but high school sports might be a bit tough for us to cover regularly, especially as the seasons start to overlap. Once again, thank you for your feedback!

Winnipeg’s Giveaway Weekend
Coming up this weekend on September 14 and 15, it’s your chance to declutter your home, all while keeping stuff out of the landfill. Win-win, right?
If you’ve got things you don’t use anymore (books, old gadgets, kitchen stuff), toss them on your curb with a “FREE” sign and let your neighbors find their next favorite item.
Tips for giving away items:
Place unwanted household items at the curb on your front street.
Label each item with a “FREE” sticker or sign.
Store away items you don’t want to give away (accidents happen!).
Remove leftover items from the curb by dusk on Sunday.
Please don’t put out:
Unsafe items
Anything infested with bed bugs (yikes!)
Old toilets with high water usage
And if you’re on the lookout for some new-to-you goodies, just cruise the streets—but remember, only take what’s marked “FREE.” Nobody wants you sneaking off with their lawn ornaments.
It’s like a treasure hunt for adults, so get involved, reduce waste, and maybe pick up a few hidden gems.
Year-Round Farmers' Market Could Be Coming to Transcona
Source: Tourism Winnipeg
The City of Winnipeg is thinking about turning the old Roland Michener Arena in Transcona into a year-round farmers' market, and it’s all set to be discussed this Friday at the property and development committee meeting.
The cost to make it happen? Somewhere between $5.4 and $7.9 million dollars. But think about it—having fresh, local food all year long could be a big deal for the community.
This arena’s been empty since 2015, so giving it a new purpose that supports local farmers and tackles food insecurity feels like a smart move, especially after the recent supply chain issues.
If the plan gets the green light, it’ll mean a fresh, local shopping spot for Transcona residents—and maybe a new hub for all of Winnipeg to enjoy local produce and goods year-round.

Nuit Blanche is Just Around the Corner
Source: Nuit Blanche Winnipeg
Nuit Blanche is coming back on September 28, and installations are already popping up around the city. If you’ve never been, this is the night when Winnipeg’s streets light up—literally—with art, lights, and creativity everywhere you look.
One of the must-see installations this year is a giant translucent maze at Stephen Juba Park that’ll surround you with light and sound. Over at Old Market Square, the "moonGarden" promises to be just as magical, with a stunning display that brings the cosmos to life.
And the best part? It’s all free! So, grab some friends and get ready to explore the city in a whole new way!
Stay Cool in the Heat
With one of the last heatwaves of the season hitting this week, the city’s set up some hydration stations to keep us all cool. There are eight spots where you can grab some water, and if you’re feeling the heat a little too much, libraries and leisure centres are open as cooling spaces.
Honestly, it’s great to see the city making sure everyone’s got a place to cool down. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and click the button below for all the details!
Goldeyes One Win Away from Championship
Source: Goldeyes X
The Goldeyes are just one win away from making it to the championship series after taking down the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 10-1 in the first game of the West Division Championship.
After a long playoff drought, this is huge for the city! It’s been an exciting run so far, and if you haven’t grabbed tickets for tonight’s game at Blue Cross Park, now’s your chance. The energy’s going to be electric, and you won’t want to miss it. Let’s cheer on the Goldeyes as they go for the sweep!
City Development:
Centre Village Set for Demolition
Source: Arch Daily
Centre Village, once seen as a bright spot for affordable housing, is now set to be torn down. Built in 2010, it was a big hope for Winnipeg’s core, but over time, security issues and design flaws left the building abandoned.
Now, Manitoba Housing is stepping in to replace it with a new 30-unit building, which will bring much-needed housing to the area. Located just a short walk from downtown, this project will provide families with a chance to live in a more connected, accessible neighborhood. Sometimes a fresh start is what’s best for the city.
Red River Ex Plans Big Revamp
As reported by CBC News, The Red River Ex has some big plans for the Blumberg Sports Complex, and if council approves, it could become a hub for all kinds of sports and activities.
They’re not just focusing on soccer—think flag football, lacrosse, and even disc sports. While also adding walking trails, a dog park, and redeveloping the riverbank, they plan to make it a space the whole community can enjoy.
What’s even better? The Ex isn’t asking for any money from the city—they’ll cover the costs. It’s exciting to see the potential for this space to transform into something everyone can enjoy!
